one of the maddening things about being in discourse studies or rhetoric is that whenever we tell people that bad actors love to appropriate the language of their enemies values in order to subvert them and confuse onlookers, people simply don’t see it until it’s too late!!
I’m struck by the Trump administration’s attempt to redefine equality as discrimination against white people. This is a deeply racist idea that *equal outcomes* must be unfair, assuming white people are naturally at the top of the hierarchy.

Liberals and leftists picked up that term where the right wing took it and essentially gave it the same treatment that reactionaries gave critical race theory. It’s become a stigmatized catchall devoid of its history and scholarship.
the denigration and distortion of "identity politics" is anti-Black. Black queer women coined and defined the term just a few decades ago, yet it's constantly demonized and stripped of its true meaning and value.
