Look, Bluesky is a Twitter byproduct that exists as a community because Musk bought Twitter and killed it and now has X wear it as a skinsuit. No one is here really because they believe in the fediverse, we're here because of what happened to Twitter. This is twitter for opting out of Musk-Twitter.

It’s sobering to look back on the run-up to the Iraq war—a period of unceasing chattering-class debate, elaborate official lies, media complicity, unavailing global protest, in the end a giant stitch-up—and have it seem like some sort of paradise of public deliberation compared to these gangsters.

Good analysis here from @snellarthur.bsky.social. The estimates you see of Venezuela’s oil reserves only really make sense at extremely high oil prices - much of it may end up being uneconomic to produce even before you factor in political, security and legal risks.
Trump is probably focused on the money he wrongly thinks he'll make from Venezuelan oil. But he's not a details guy and nobody has thought through the details. Essentially, the US has taken over Venezuela by mistake. Stranger things have happened, but not many.

Stranger Things
The 1980s Nostalgia of Trump's Foreign Policy is probably going to end up, like Stranger Things, as a horror show.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

I can’t believe these maniacs are making the invasion of Iraq look well-planned and a solid public relations case made for

I’ve been on vacation with my family this week, so have watched the Stranger Things finale about three times now, and I just love the final battle more and more. This show wasn’t perfect, but it was an achievement.
I won’t spoil anything about Stranger Things, I will say it worked for me, and that it was special having a show my whole family could enjoy together. Also, as far as characters going from regular kids to lil’ mini Rambos, it’s very legit in terms of D&D, gaining new abilities and always leveling up

We did a Marvel comics jigsaw puzzle on our vacation and I got to explain to my son what Kirby Krackle was and who John Byrne is

2025 was an odd year. Painful at times but personally incredibly rewarding, one of my best yet. But it feels wrong because it was such a horrifyingly bad year in a macro sense, likely even worse than 2020 somehow.

May 2026 bring redemption and a ray of light through the darkness. I believe it will

one unexpected outlook change from being a dad is taking the self care people 10x more seriously when it comes to dealing with weirdly directed anger and rage (including Online). many angry posts should have been naps or little packets of crackers

Perhaps this is common knowledge to everyone, but it wasn’t until last night, when I forced my family to watch Deep Blue Sea (bc we’re on a beach vacation naturally), one of my all time favorite schlocky horror moves, that I learned that Saffron Burrows was originally supposed to survive the ending

The Trump administration threatened a $1 million lawsuit against against an artist who canceled his event at the Kennedy Center.

In response, two more groups have pulled out. If they're trying to scare people, it's not working anymore.

This is the most I’ve been tempted to use Twitter in years, as I think the Stranger Things fandom there is losing their minds about the final season (and coming up with theories on on how it could still work out), while Bluesky is filled with adults who stopped watching after season 2
