Intro post:
My day job is helping people and companies make the best use of the internet. I create and support theatre, spend a lot of time in cinemas, love Terry Pratchett (GNU), and have a tendency to waffle.

I had 15 minutes of fame back on the bird site:

There's no lurking sad backstory behind Gaston. He's just an incurious, bullying narcissist. Sometimes a villain is just a villain.

Gaston is a great character. Precisely because he is an admission of something rare in kids' media:

That bully at school? Might be they're just a thick-as-pig-shit unrepentant arsehole. It happens. Don't worry about trying to find common ground. He's just a dickhead and will go nowhere in life.

Can all the young people add checking in on their pet grumpy Gen X movie nerd to the todo list?
They really aren't doing well today.

(Especially those who couldn't sleep and watched the news unfold in real time)

Multiple sources confirming the death of Rob Reiner at the age of 78.

His portrayal of Meathead on All in the Family captivated me at a young age.

He directed some of my all time favourite movies, including A Few Good Men and The Princess Bride.

Thank you for the art Mr Reiner.

As you wish.

I got a whole chunk of stage show references in Wake Up Dead Man that I haven't seen mentioned yet, and I am sure I missed some. I am still wondering if it is more than just Rian Johnson theatre nerd but something deeper to do with the cast or plot.

Think I will end up adding “I'll refer you to the comments by Linus Torvalds", to "Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, I was there when it was written,"[1] and "the reply given in Arkell and Pressdram" to my list of 'witty' ripostes.

If Labour wanted to know why it is tanking electorally trans rights would be a great case study. Not because people vote on trans rights; most don't. But because everyone - both the JKRs who hate trans people and trans people and their allies - can sniff out Labour's position as insincere bullshit.

I think the thing that persuades me that most white men think they have enough privilege to not care about out the second bit of "Fuck around and find out" is quite how many actors with access to PR advice still piss off their singer-songwriter (now mostly ex) partners.
