Intro post:
My day job is helping people and companies make the best use of the internet. I create and support theatre, spend a lot of time in cinemas, love Terry Pratchett (GNU), and have a tendency to waffle.

I had 15 minutes of fame back on the bird site:

Social media v the News of The World
Twitter users have mounted an extremely effective campaign to dissuade advertisers from using the News of the World.

Would like to apply for a replacement/upgrade body. This one is far too broken.

Given I never wear ties, I am thinking about getting more collarless shirts to wear with suits.
What do people think? Worry that I am not as cool as 12 (although unlike him I won't be doing up the top button)

I haven't seen any Starfleet Academy yet, but having seen some promo stuff I am looking forward to finding out if Holly Hunter's character is Bi, Neurodivergent, or both.

It's not defeatist to acknowledge that rules, regulations, and norms only hold power if they are respected or can be enforced.

You can't mount an effective strategy against something if you deny that the thing can ever happen.

Jenrick defection probably the dumbest thing he could have done. He could have been the top race science guy in the tory party, but now he's going to be a run-of-the-mill race science guy who needs to impress guys who believe a secret sect of Brown people control the traffic lights

I really wish people hadn't demonized calories because the one thing that calorie count is really, really good for is being able to say "Wow those are starvation rations."
Brooke Rollins: "We've run over 1,000 simulations. It can cost around $3 a meal for a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, corn tortilla, and one other thing. So there is a way to do this that actually will save the average American consumer money."

Finding it very difficult not to be cynical about the “Northern Powerhouse” rail announcement. Especially given the timescales.

For those asking if the iron cross/Teutonic Order logo is real.
Last time there was doubt because of the way it leaked, but not this time:

Either Sheffield City Council had 500 gallons of Vimto to dispose of or it turns out the Peace Gardens was built on an ancient Druid burial ground.

I wonder who owns Dilbert now and if they'll do anything interesting with it?

Wondering whether to post about UKIP's new cross pattée logo, or if they aren't relevant enough to cover any more.
(It is faintly plausible that the latter is why they have decided to go for outrage)

“News organizations” are running the hell out of this story because they see their function not so much to report facts but to enforce social norms like “police officers are automatically deserving of respect to a degree it is newsworthy if someone is mean to one of them.”

Now, Nadhim Zahawi going from one rabidly anti-europe party to another and then calling for a "Glorious Revolution" that is hilarious political satire.

Isn't it?

Doesn't really matter, given his previous he'll be caller for the leader to resign tomorrow.

Did they tell us One Battle After Another was a comedy in advance or was one of those suggestions where a man comes out with something terrible and then afterwards says it was justa joke?

One of the big surprises about how well One Battle After Another did at the Golden Globes is the category it was in. I can't for the life of me remember any of the songs.

Since football is unlikely to get onboard with "respect the kicker" I will continue my one man online campaign for switching to a stop/start clock although to be honest there is zero hope of that either. But 4th officials rolling dice to decide the amount of stoppage time really isn't it.

The message from the White House this morning is that, once again, it falls on ordinary American citizens to remain calm and professional when dealing with the heavily armed agents of the government because they are very emotional and might fly off into a murderous rage at the slightest insult.

Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."
