I am officially doing my talk "All Technology is Assistive (but not Always Accessible)" at the Southern Alberta Library Conference in 2026.
This is one of my oldest talks, but is continuously updated, and has gotten good reviews and responses from both library staff and fellow disabled people.

One thing I was struck by in the Remembrance Day ceremony was when CBC interviewed a WW2 vet and his message was that people needed to be reminded about the cost of war so that we wouldn't repeat it. I feel like that's not the message about wars past and present that we get from many politicians now

If there's one thing I would like everyone over 25 to know, it's that way more of the government is run by the people who just decided to show up to meetings than you realize.
Attend a couple city commission meetings yourself, and they lose a lot of the mystique.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.
The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.
Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.
One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

The woman who called churches to get formula and the discussion around it shows a deep misunderstanding of how church funds work. Should the church help the community? Obviously. Do most churches have funds and staff at the ready to get formula quickly? They don’t, actually.

To add: it would serve you well to remember that generally autistics are curious people and if we dont understand something, we want to. And if we dont satisfy that curiosity, for many of us it becomes an obsessive thought that leads to painful anxiety

My province is one of the main reasons.
Any surprise the party in power thinks that there's a "narrative" around vaccines and Tylenol and there's an "agenda" pushing them?
I hate my government.

In case you don’t know this, people who can work actually work more and more efficiently when they aren’t terrified about finances and how to feed themselves and their families.
Financial fear is DEBILITATING
Financial fear is DEBILITATING
Because feeding hungry people as a goal on its own would discourage industry, which is noble. Because if people didn't have to work not to starve, then they wouldn't work.

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

The COVID vaccine shit here in AB is asinine and hits all my overload triggers.
Upside: they didn't question my qualification for free vaccines. Hopefully the government doesn't pull some shit.

For some reason I am getting a lot of camping ads lately.
And...none of these products are even remotely useful for anywhere I have actually camped.
In fact, I think many of them would make you look more like food to bears.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

So many people are utterly incapable of calling out Ableism without being intellectually ableist/sanist.
It's exhausting on so, so, many levels.

Amen. Usually when someone uses such ableist language, what they’re really describing is a lack of care or integrity, or even just a recklessness based in honest ignorance. Using ableist insults sidesteps the moral implications of the indicated behavior, and the task of demanding accountability.
CN: ableist language
This is a good question.
The answer: it really depends on what you're trying to say. Are you trying to say that someone's intellectual capability is inferior and therefore worthy of ridicule? Because in that case, it's always going to be ableist and harmful.

Not sure how to articulate the question without using the words but. Are there any non ableist alternatives to words like dumb, stupid and idiot that aren't ableist or harm full.
