One thing I was struck by in the Remembrance Day ceremony was when CBC interviewed a WW2 vet and his message was that people needed to be reminded about the cost of war so that we wouldn't repeat it. I feel like that's not the message about wars past and present that we get from many politicians now

The unicorn followed the sound, found the singer, and laid down with their head in the singer's lap.

Very, very few comic book creators can survive on just the money they make from comics. It is an inherently unstable job and it is only getting worse as time goes on. Don't ever be embarrassed or ashamed of needing another job so that you can keep making comics.

Sometimes that invisible safety net is logistical, not financial, but still just as consequential. My spouse runs everything in the household: insurance, bills, groceries, etc. Every hour not spent on that adult minutiae is an hour I can spend on art, which makes me "faster" than a lot of my peers.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"
The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on
