I mean very obviously Hegseth should resign, and if it were a Democratic administration this would be quickly be a consensus position.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

I work with low-income borrowers and holy shit, upper-income borrowers like the people who dominate this site would not *believe* the loan terms lower-income borrowers get duped into by sleekly-marketed fintech firms, Silicon Valley has digitized payday lending.
I’ve basically had the same thing happening to me; the average joe is bombarded with PLAY THE LATEST PHONE CASINO!! DONT FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR SOME SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!! FINANCE THAT $100k SUV and it’s boiling huge swaths of folks alive

I’ve now watched this clip like 10 times and it’s instant first ballot hall of fame. One of the most comically out of touch things I’ve ever heard heard from a public official.
Trump’s commerce secretary Howard Lutnick says if Social Security skipped a check, his mother-in-law wouldn’t complain—and if you would, it indicates you are probably a fraudster. Insane.

In the past 24 hours, the Trump regime has:

- Threatened to shutdown the Social Security Administration unless they give DOGE's everyone's social security information

- Threatened to arrest American citizens for protesting Musk and Tesla and deport them to a foreign country without due process

The path to authoritarianism starts with "they're all corrupt," "they all lie to you," and "everything is a scam." It lets you pass off feeble-mindedness as sophistication and substitute objectivity for subjectivity. Liberal democracy requires that certain things be true and certain things be moral.

The big lesson of the last 50 years is that cynicism benefits authoritarians. As such, if liberals are ever able to regain power, we should prioritize restoring trust in institutions. The best way to do this is to mete out extremely harsh punishments against powerful people who abused this trust.

They claim they can snatch people up, put them on planes, and deport them to a country run by an authoritarian, where those people will be forced to work slave labor at an inhumane prison. All without due process, and in defiance of federal courts.

The hypotheticals are over. This is the nightmare.

More broadly, liberals keep getting told that they have to sell their ideas without saying their ideas are correct or other ideas are wrong since that is “scolding” and I do not know how to do that.

like Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message, and the message of social media sites is that nothing is real:

a) Twitter-like sites tell you that nothing is real and that you should be cynical and conspiratorial about that

b) Instagram-like sites tell you nothing is real so be entertained

really seems that to much of the legal academy, the worst thing you can be is rude. twisting history and the law to deprive millions of people of citizenship? well, as long as you’re polite about it!

jesus fucking christ, man, it gets really tired noting this kind of thing, but "[veterans] aren't fit to have a job or aren't willing to come to work" is the kind of headline that should absolutely destroy a fucking administration and would, if that administration were led by a democrat
Alina Habba on veterans who have been fired from government jobs: "Perhaps they're not fit to have a job at this moment."

Peaceful protest is protected under our First Amendment: freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of the press.

Trump threatening to pull federal funding from schools over Americans protesting is unconstitutional on several levels.

It’s authoritarian overreach & must be repudiated.

I legitimately think a nontrivial reason why the world went to shit is that at some point, we decided there are mess makers and mess cleaners and if the mess makers make a mess too big
for the mess cleaners, it just shows the mess cleaners suck.
