Another week, another outbreak of head lice at the school. How do we know? Because the school emailed us about it.

As for the cases of sickness that have kids coming down with fever that are going around? Not a peep.

Yes. I am fascinated by cars: I miss the Lemon-Aid books by Phil Edmonston, who would write so wonderfully about cars and I’d read them cover to cover whether I was in the market (in 2003, 2009, and 2017, respectively) but I also believe in reducing emissions, transit, and walkable cities
I am the consummate car guy. I dedicated my life to creating and adoring them. But I have also learned that life is better when you don’t need one. I’d rather take the bike and/or the train and I love living in a walkable city. It’s not about “taking away your car”, it’s about giving you a choice.
You can be a “car guy” and not like car dependency. You can be a “car guy” and get that too many cars in cities is bad for everyone, including drivers. You can be a “car guy” and be tired of lies & manipulations like “the war on cars.” You can be a “car guy” and know more choice means more freedom.

IMHO, LLMs will be an economic negative for years.

They'll do a worse job than humans,

but will still replace humans because they're cheaper for employers,

but really they're costlier, it's just that lots of costs get externalized to society by our horrible energy/tax policies.

Remember the screeches of “kids have to be in school! Think of their mental health!”?

Making children sick/disabled by using them as a buffer for the rest of society to get “back to normal” was/is vile.

They never cared about the kids and they still don’t.
The pro-infection advocates have now reached the stage that they are denying saying that kids can be used to boost adult immunity… by infecting them and spreading it into households… schools.

Too late now. It’s on the record.

The shame of it.

I’ve reported on the Doug Ford gov’t’s environmental record for 7 years and I remain concerned that Ontario’s only climate plan is a 2018 draft the auditor says isn’t evidence-based — and the gov’t now admits it won’t release a new plan or set stronger emissions-reduction targets

I wish I thought studies like this would influence infection prevention and control policies in hospitals. Removing Covid mitigations from cancer treatment centres should be something of a scandal and yet it's not.
China, 381 lung cancer patients on immunotherapy were tracked for 6 months.

Those who caught COVID-19 had worse survival, especially if infected within 3 months of treatment.

Even mild cases cut survival nearly in half.

Long-term impact of COVID-19 in patients with lung cancer receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors: a multicenter cohort study during Omicron pandemic - BMC Infectious Diseases
Background The long-term impact of COVID-19 on cancer patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remained unknown. This study aimed to investigate the association between COVID-19 and long-term outcomes in ICIs-treated lung cancer patients. Methods Three hundred eighty-one patients with advanced lung cancer who were treated with ICIs were enrolled and followed for at least 6 months in 10 medical centers in China during Omicron pandemic. The primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Cox model with time-dependent covariate and landmark analysis were used. Results The multivariable analysis showed that patients with COVID-19 had significantly worse OS (HR: 2.59 [1.58–4.26], P < 0.001) and PFS (HR: 1.55 [1.02–2.35], P < 0.001). In landmark analyses, COVID-19 that occurred within 3 months after initiation of ICIs was found to be associated with shorter OS (HR: 3.40 [1.70–6.77], P = 0.001) and PFS (HR: 3.40 [1.70–6.77], P = 0.02). In subgroup analysis, both mild and severe COVID-19 were associated with shorter OS (mild, HR: 2.39 [1.33–4.29], P = 0.004; severe, HR 4.46 [2.39–8.33], P < 0.002) and PFS (mild, HR 1.71 [1.05–2.78], P = 0.03; severe, HR 3.32 [1.97–5.60], P < 0.002). Additionally, there were no significant differences in OS or PFS among patients with varying treatment delays. Conclusions COVID-19 had a negative impact on the long-term outcomes of patients with lung cancer who received ICIs, particularly if the infection occurred during the first 3 months of ICIs treatment. These findings are crucial for addressing the COVID-19 epidemic and other respiratory infectious diseases.

For the non-UK folks, lemme remind you that people in this country voted Labour to oust the Conservative government out and were viewed as the “lesser evil”…
