But of course, the idea of “nonviolent” doesn’t really exist when the state has the mandate to declare anything as violent — anyone who protested in 2020 can tell you that. You can be standing around singing and the agents will beat you down after saying you violated a curfew.

And it’s pretty clear that people think of nonviolent as simply being passive, when nonviolent was a larger umbrella that encompassed agitative demonstrations. A sit-in at a whites only restaurant is nonviolent but it’s not passive. Occupying buildings, cars, etc are all nonviolent.
These aren’t the only two books on the subject and they’re about very specific points of US history but I truly cannot read another take from someone whose idea of Civil Rights protesting begins and ends with an organised march.

alright I can’t deal with another bout of non-violence discourse, everyone has to read these two books before they can weigh in now

Our paper "Video Game Archaeology as Hauntological Practice: A Collaborative Autoethnography in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree" has been conditionally accepted to #chi2026!

Super proud of this follow-up to @mtrc.bsky.social and I's Elden Ring archaeological survey. More soon!

btw in case you’re a fellow switch user, feel free to add me and watch as I put another 100 hours into this baby game for babies (complementary, as I am a big baby)

Let 2026 be the year that “civility” and “decorum” are finally viewed by everyone as the useless, sabotaging rhetoric of the politically cowardly and complicit.

Since posting this, I've seen more surprised reactions at Starmer trying to outflank Jenrick on his right and honestly I don't know what it will take for people to either wake up or stop pretending they really care about far-right politics

Either way, it's embarrassing

Jenrick didn't need to join Reform to mainstream reactionary politics, just like Badenoch and Starmer haven't needed to either

We can't keep exceptionalising the far right and instead make accountable all of those who mainstream its politics, regardless of their affiliation in politics or the media

It’s wild that there are still people defending Labour when they’re out here straight up saying “actually we’re to the right of the fucking Conservative Party when it comes to immigration”
“Robert Jenrick is the man who as Immigration Minister oversaw the open borders experiment that led to the biggest increase in illegal immigration in our country”

We don’t have time to identify which form of violence is worse when it’s coming at our heads.

And if you do have the time, it sounds like you don’t have skin in the game so I could truly care less about your opinion right now 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m worried about people seeking asylum in both countries, I’m worried about disabled people and trans people in both countries. I’m worried about protestors in both countries.

Because the UK and the US are coming for all of them, so who gives a fuck who sucks more?
January 16, 2026 at 11:29 AM
While you are all arguing over which one sucks more, I’m worried about my immigrant family back in the US encountering ICE and also worried about my own immigrant ass getting permanent residency ripped from me by the UK government.

Believe me, I’m not looking at either place fondly right now.
January 16, 2026 at 11:26 AM
I just don’t care, bro, I really don’t care which country is worse because this discourse does nothing to alleviate the shit going down in BOTH countries.
Ah good, the Americans and the British are fighting about who sucks worse again.

My favourite time of the month as an American immigrant in the UK. 🙄

This is such a shame. What's been happening in EAA over the last six months or so is awful and is certainly putting off many of us from joining or attending.

Archaeology will never not be political and I am so proud of all those who have taken a stand against the bullying.

Yesterday I resigned from the EAA Appeals & Anti-Harassment Committee (AAHC) after I was targetted in what I believe was an attempt to disprupt & undermine the AAHC. Be assured, AAHC are v much committed to making EAA a safe space, despite the restrictions imposed on them by the existing statutes. 🏺

again, "open borders" is a lie. interviewers who don't immediately call this out are complicit, and should get another job

This should be reputation-shattering for the University of Minnesota.

Absolutely boycott-worthy that they are full collaborators.

Everytime you, as an American think about starting some US VS UK discourse (and likewise,
a Brit starting UK VS US discourse), I want you to remember that your good friend Alex can legally enter either country at her will and come at your with a baseball bat.

You both suck in very different and unique ways! You’re both very special in how shit you are!

Now shut the fuck up and do something useful, like stopping someone being violently deported - that’s a fun thing you both share, don’t worry!

If democrats are not matching their potential voters’ anger, they’re not making them feel seen. It’s the one thing Trump was politically good at on day one.
