Summarises my sentiments on the franchise exactly. Loved the books - but refuse to give her a single penny.
I got into Harry Potter as a teen before it blew up - my mom was a librarian and gave me the first one to read

I loved them for a long time

JK Rowling is a fascist TERF who wants to kill my friends and she and the entire series can go to hell, she’ll never see a cent from me again
I think it’s fine to bully people for reading Harry Potter in 2025 actually

If you want to read your old Harry Potter books, you should do it in secret and shamefully - you know, in the way that J.K. Rowling wants to force trans people to live.

Statistically, movements to topple governments succeed when at least 3.5% of the population participate in non-violent opposition.

I’m going to coin a law - call it Maugham’s First Law - and it is that nothing Wes Streeting ever says turns out to be true. 🧵

I am committed to going to Ilford North during the next general election to support Leanne Mohamad's campaign to oust Streeting (pending due diligence and review of her manifesto).
🚨 Projection suggests leftist Leanne Mohamad would defeat Wes Streeting by a landslide margin 😮

It boils my piss that the news stories are continuously 'are we over-diagnosing mental health problems?' rather than 'oh my God what have we DONE to ourselves that SO many people are SO profoundly unhappy and anxious and unwell?'

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen

It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world

It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

The French achieving what Americans could not - stopping a felon from becoming president
Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right in France, was barred from running for public office for 5 years today as punishment in an embezzlement / fake jobs case.

Le Pen has been a clear frontrunner to make runoff in the 2027 presidential race (for the 3rd time), but this would prevent that:
Marine Le Pen barred from running for public office after conviction in fake jobs trial, will appeal
The ruling could mean that the French far right's leader will not be able to stand for president in the 2027 elections, though she has appealed. The three-time presidential candidate was found guilty ...

Excellent thread dismantling the media narrative of foreigners as scroungers in the UK
The Telegraph recently ran a headline:

"More than one million foreigners claiming benefits."

Sounds shocking, right?

But what does it actually mean?

Let’s have a look!

This is a spectacular fuck up and grossly irresponsible. Given they are a mental health charity they should not be putting out posts that might suggest some people think they have no choice but to take their own lives.
This is a grossly irresponsible way to talk about suicide and mental health, so it’s absolutely stunning to see a mental health charity doing it.

What on *earth* are they playing at?!

Watching this allyship is touching, but sadly in short supply. JB Pritzker has someone in his family who is trans. It's good to see a politician stand by their principles and not throw loved ones and vulnerable people under the bus for political clout. Here's looking at you, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social

Elbows Up, Canada! 🇨🇦
I have just asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call a federal election on April 28.

We need to build the strongest economy in the G7. We need to deal with President Trump’s tariffs. Canadians deserve a choice about who should lead that effort for our country.

More confected panic from The Observer. It's telling that journalists feel that an editorial is warranted to once again bludgeon 0.6% of the population on their right to exist on their own terms, at a time when the planet goes to hell in a handcart. The UK media is a disgrace.

But Israel killed 7 HUNDRED Palestinians this week, including almost 200 children, & yet there's little outrage from our politicians or media.
