NEW: Judge Boasberg grants TRO preventing deportation of all in US custody subject to new Trump EO! Concludes that terms like "nation" and "government" likely don't apply to Tren de Aragua, immigration doesn't seem to be "invasion," so Alien Enemies Act wouldn't provide basis for removal.

What the nice law professor said!!!
The D.C. Circuit ruled at 8:07 p.m. The deadline was 11:59 p.m. The plaintiffs hadn’t even responded yet.

I understand that everyone’s dander is up about … everything. But there’s nothing sinister about a two-day pause so #SCOTUS can actually review the arguments. The key is what happens on Friday.
#BREAKING: Chief Justice Roberts issues temporary, "administrative" stay of the government's midnight deadline to turn spending taps back on in foreign aid funding case.

This is *not* a sign that the Court is going to rule for Trump on the merits; it's buying a short amount of time to sort it out.

I wish more people knew about the 1920s Klan because they—perhaps more than European fascists—are the model for Trumpism.

This is a good summary and a nice reminder that they do a lot of damage, but in the end, fascists always lose.
In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Good to see that CDC finally updated its measles page and will now update it weekly. That's about the only good news though. Measles outbreak in West Texas continues. Kindergarten vaccination rates are declining. The US is at risk of losing the elimination status we achieved in 2000.

Every single day of my one wild and precious life, I learn something new about The Supreme Court that I would never have otherwise cared about 😭, in this case, abeyance. But I am grateful for all the legal reporters who make these things easier for us laypeople to understand.
NEW: The Supreme Court allows Hampton Dellinger to continue serving as Special Counsel, for now, but holds the case in abeyance until the restraining order expires on Feb. 26.

A win for Dellinger and a loss for Trump. But this is not the end of the case.
