Hello newskies! I'm a retro gaming fan who also makes pixel art from time to time!

I have a silly sprite comic I run at @fishestgup.bsky.social
Frankly, I am not one to judge what two consenting Presidents of the United States do to eachother in the privacy of their own home.

The number one thing Nintendo and Pokemon discourse has taught me is my parents were right to give me a Mega Drive as my first console because growing up a Sega kid by default meant intuitively learning the Buddhist principle of impermanence with regard to anything I like and I'm healthier for it.

Not to be a traditionalist but if you make a Metroid game where someone talks to you then you are doing something horrifically wrong.

the older I get the more I feel like people are either pro trans rights or pro pedophilia with absolutely no room inbetween
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

NieR Automata genuinely might be one of the most important game releases of all time explicitly because of how it directly inspired DXVK, yes.

Doubling down on this prediction considering all the work Valve is doing to get x86 architecture running on ARM. We're about to enter a golden era of weird little handhelds.
I think all the Chinese companies that make those retro emulator handhelds will eventually figure out how to make handhelds with SteamOS built in, and there will be a bit of a handheld PC gaming boom.

I don't think anyone will buy the next Xbox, if there even is one.

The government is full of pedophiles and the legacy media is complicit but on the plus side broad adoption of Linux on the desktop might have a fighting chance so today is kind of a wash.

I feel like Steam Machine even with the little information we have just directly kills any chance the Xbox will ever have of recovery. I can't see any reason is picking up the next xbox over a Steam Machine.

I will say this for the Valve announcement: it is refreshing to see a product launch that is just "here's a product that you might want. here's what it is. here's what it does" with absolutely no mention of AI, mysterious future features that might arrive OTA, or some extractive business model.

You can generate entire forests, and automatically make them intersect with rivers! Then you placed a city, and a few villages, and you’re ready to go. So big AAA studios generated bigger levels, and gave it to playtesters.

And playtesters hated it. They said the worlds felt empty and repetitive.

it remains to be seen if the Steam Machine would really catch on (price could be a big factor) but I do think it has a potential audience among more casual PC gamers who own a laptop/maybe a Steam Deck and are looking for an upgrade but would otherwise probably opt for an Xbox Series S or a PS5.

also holy crap because of the Steam Frame, SteamOS has been ported to ARM and has a translation layer for running modern Windows games on it. Is this going to lead to an explosion of cheap ARM PC handhelds?

Valve burying Microsoft, Meta, Sony, and Apple in terms of Gaming/VR Hardware with one single announcement. You love to see it.

(I know Valve also has it's issues but if there's one company I'd vastly prefer to most major tech companies it's for sure Valve)

honestly I think this game might be a top 10 for me, it really surprised me. Only major complaint (aside from stealth being kind of ass) is that it's very Heterosexual game. I need a sequel where you play as a bisexual tgirl and you're able to collect and wear frilly outfits while mowing down Nazis.
Oh hey I didn't realize GOG had The Saboteur DRM free (Steam version has EA Play). Nice thing to grab before the Saudi deal goes through.
