so Kirby & the Amazing Mirror is notable for being a 2D open world Metroidvania-ish kinda game where you could have up to 4 players independently exploring at the same time.

Are there any other games that are like this?

I've given up hope that we'll ever see Donald Trump in prison. Whether it's this year or 10 years from now, he's not leaving the White House unless it's in a coffin.

But maybe, just *maybe*, we'll survive long enough to see JD Vance go to prison.

#RandomGameSaturday I was blessed with randomly finding Valis III in my parents' basement this weekend, a game I don't remember ever seeing or playing as a child. It's a cute game but unfortunately far too frustrating for me to casually recommend it, particularly the platforming.

by the way, no matter what anyone says, the correct response to this morning's news of US military intervention in Venezuela is to be horrified and outraged. Even though this kind of thing is "normal" for the US, it doesn't matter. You are correct to feel the way that you do.

Congress has not formally declared war since 1942, 83 years ago.

Look at all the war the US has done in the past 83 years. Very obviously, it long long ago stopped requiring congressional approval for war according to its own constitution.
Fun fact: the US has been at continual war since 1945 and *not a single one of these wars*, from the Korean War to Vietnam to Iraq to Iraq again, was ever declared war by Congress.

The last time the US Congress declared war was 1942. 83 years ago.
A lot of people are talking about whether Trump is going to go to war with Iran but not enough people are talking about the fact that Trump has no legal authority to do so without Congressional authorization

Affirmations for playing games in 2026:

It's OK to play on Easy. It's OK to stop playing a game if it's too difficult or frustrating. It's OK to skip ahead past a game you "need" to play first if you really just want to play the sequel. It's OK to look up the ending on Youtube.

bleak and horrifying read but my takeaway is that if you use any of these delivery apps, you NEED to be tipping in cash as well. Even if it's just a few dollars, all of that goes directly to the driver and it remains entirely outside of the company's control.

In spite of all the everything else, 2025 was a pretty great year for my YouTube channel. I doubled my subscriber count, got over 100,000 views, and most importantly, am very proud of the videos I made.

I started off in January looking at some of Saitek's truly bizarre gamepad hardware:

youtube theory videos used to be called stuff like "Is John actually DEAD in Silverorb 2???" and "All the Secrets of Red Night 3 REVEALED"

now they're just called stuff like "Blimbob: the GLORBO Theory" with a picture of a sinister looking guy on the thumbnail and no other information

it’s stupid when gamers say gaming is expensive, yet ignore ROM hacks. It’s like saying you’re hungry when there’s a fan translation of Linkle Liver Story on the ground outside

When running certain older games on my PC, I've found that 720p is a great happy medium between having a better resolution than you would have gotten back in the day, but not so much as for it to be TOO clean.

For example, here's Sonic Adventure DX (with Dreamcast Conversion and other mods):

Preparing for an adventure, Japanese D&D Rules Cyclopedia, style!

The three-volume bunkobon localization and release in 1994 of the Cyclopedia was a turning point for D&D in Japan, shedding the western-style form factor and artwork of previous releases.
