It's not the world's most elegant code (I taught myself TS this winter to do it), but as a general reminder: I have open sourced the code that we use for Skywatch automation, for anyone interested in monitoring the firehose and labeling based on rulesets.

While there are often some ethical issues with making free PDFs of paywalled content, in this case it seems entirely justifiable, given the author, the subject, and the journalistic imperative to provide the widest possible audience for the verb "Michael Wolffed"

The kinds of databases:

• Fancy files
• 1970s stays winning
• This would be so cool if it worked at scale
• Oh, that's why google has a monopoly on search

The year is 2028. A greater than Carrington level event takes down digital infrastructure across the Northern hemisphere. Bluesky users rejoice, before realizing they can't log on to gloat.

Millions die as unhardened but critical digital infrastructure goes offline.
here's what's gonna happen w/AI:

• normies are gonna demand fast, free AI BUT also no datacenters.
• the consumer model shifts to home AI rigs.
• electricity usage ⬆️⬆️⬆️. grid still struggles.
• Dems are forced to tax individual consumers or eat the political cost of infinite electric bills, forever.

It's not just that the United States has stopped trying to promote liberal democratic ideas internationally. It's that the United States is actively trying to promote the contrary. It's trying to turn more countries into Hungary.

as a non-binary person I also find “folx” to be intensely cringe

“folks” is a perfectly good non-gendered term and you just decided to Hot Topic it to be edgy
I do not understand the point of “folx“ AT ALL

I only realized I was automatically doing this earlier this year
“USian” is awkwardly constructed, so my brain always inserts an extra A in there to get “USAsian”, which while technically proper, is more awkward in its own way.

as so often, the explanation is probably 'animals feel emotions that are similar to ours, and when we disregard the evidence to avoid 'anthromorphism' it's fundamentally ideological, not scientific'

One thing that drives me nuts about this is that the actual full government name of Mexico is “The United States of Mexico”. It doesn’t even make any sense that “Estadounidense” would be the appropriate term for Americans, it’s less correct!
November 26, 2025 at 9:56 PM
1) If we're really doing this, we should bring back "Usonian"
2) Arguments in favor of "USian" would be more compelling if "Americanos" wasn't so widely used instead of "Estadounidense" by the same people USian is purportedly on behalf of.
3) USian only seems to be used as part of ingroup signaling
Like it’s one thing for a group of people to say “I prefer to be called this” it’s another to TELL another whole country of diverse ethnicities and heritage that you will now be calling them something else.

fig's work on @microcosm.blue is hugely important for performant interfaces that need to use firehose data to perform lookups! they have made that data vastly more usable and accessible! and maybe it wouldn't have been possible without Rust, who knows! I have no opinion on Rust! Don't @ me!
i also received a bluesky grant, for @microcosm.blue

dozens of atproto apps you might know use constellation, for major features like red dwarf, minor ones like leaflet, or as fallback like Blacksky.
yup that's officially 10 billion atproto backlinks

I'm Bam Margera, Welcome to the Department of Defense
*distorted guitar riffs play as Bam intentionally launches a FGM-148 Javelin backwards to propel himself on a skateboard, almost immediately wiping out*
I’d prefer anyone else, really. Bam Margera, Sabrina Carpenter, Jordan Balfort, basically any other living American would be better

We started with publications on atproto; now we're bringing it all together so _anything_ you write on Leaflet, incl single documents / posts, can be 'atprotated' :)

If I didn't have a smartphone, I'd have to quit my job, because work no longer provides physical one-time-code generators, depending instead on Authenticator apps.

Trust me, I've tried!
yes, I feel like you can safely ignore anyone who tells you with a straight face in 2025 that you can just do without a smartphone
This article makes really good points about the inability of most people to cut expenses without entirely losing the ability to participate in the economy. I get tired of people telling me to live cheaper by eliminating things that are necessary for modern life.
