I think this is one of the places where affirming churches can make a real impact. My parish doesn’t always get it right, but it matters that I’m going through gender transition as a normal, joyful life event within a community devoted to sharing life together in the long term.

I think "activist" also brings with it connotations of dubious ideology and untrustworthy partisanship. Compare it with its counterpart, the concerned citizen who is allowed to intervene in politics but from a position of universally acceptible reasonability ('reasonable concerns')
The main reason for it is if someone's an activist (i.e involved in political action of some kind that might affect other people's lives) they cease, at least in the eyes of editors, to be a private figure who might not need their lives invading for chatting online with other people.
