Calling Bluesky an echo chamber misses the point, because what Bluesky offers is a chance to redefine how humans treat one another online, where so many of us live. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...
Bruce Arthur: Bluesky may be our chance to build the type of online world that X has abandoned
Bluesky offers tools to shape your experience online, instead of being forced to exist in the echo chamber that defines X.

Americans are losing the right to exercise state power to restrict the fundamental human rights of a tiny minority of marginalized people without being criticized for that online, and Jeremy Fucking Peters is on it.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

“Ending racism is an impossible goal so Black people must grow superhuman levels of resilience,” is not an uncommon take either
Trump HHS nominee RFK Jr.:

If you give Black children “resilience” then “the inevitable racism” will “bounce off” them like they are “the Avengers” because “they will be immune to it” and “then we don’t have to stop racism altogether, because we’re never going to be able to do that.”

I think often about Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic saying a while back that they would have women and minorities do more features if they could but that there just aren't that many who can around.
I'm a senior staff writer at an online magazine. I write features (1100+ words) pretty regularly. I'm also expected to produce 25 articles a month. The VF feature annoys me because of how incredibly rare the opportunities are to publish profiles and features at that length, pay rate, and prominence.

The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
