I read through these (more in the comments) and hoped maybe this was some cheeky lefty publication that went looking for the most extremist nuts they could find to make the right look bad.

Nope. It’s City Journal, published by the far right Manhattan Institute.

Horrifying.

Because my friends are extremely normal people who are not online, my posts will be the only ones on here with the link to support them through bone cancer. This site has saved my life more than once, and now I’m hoping it can do the same for them.

There's a series of things (like the ballroom, Gulf of America) that we're going to have to *undo* the moment this guy is out of office.
And yet I can already hear future Democrat presidents saying "I'm focused on the people's work, not the knucklehead stuff" and just leave this man's shit up.

Yes, it’s illegal. Like changing it to Department of War, like ten thousand other things. Part of the Trump strategy is to break the law and convey “the rule of law is weak and feminine and laughable and should be overridden by Our Guy.” Trump is fundamentally anti-law.

On the pod, @swin24.bsky.social and me on the darker story behind the Wiles mess: People like her know how lawless the Trump project is but are going along anyway:

"Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and to prevent the lawful transfer of power."

I can’t believe we threatened war with Canada, Denmark, and Mexico. And actually bombed Iran. And now we are going to war with Venezuela. In one fucking year.

Look, the GOP has been the party for bad people who make everything worse for my entire adult life, but there has not previously been a simple and straightforward argument under conventional legal principles that several high ranking members of the administration are murderers.
Updated timeline with 3 more strikes, killing 8 more people 👇

Reminder: all of the strikes are extrajudicial killings that #Trump ordered and the military is carrying out.

They aren't war crimes (we're not at war), they are murder and crimes against humanity.

Steve isn’t here anymore, but he always posted this picture on Hanukkah so I thought we could carry on his tradition and remember him.
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

I don’t use social media to argue about politics with strangers.

I use social media to talk to people about fish.

When I talk about fish on Bluesky, people ask me questions about fish.

When I talk about fish on Twitter, people threaten to murder my family because we’re Jewish.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.

Walked past Build-A-Bear and explained it to the 3yo: “That is the flesh grinder, it prepares the bear guts. Over on the skin wall, you choose a skinsuit for your bear, which gets stuffed with guts and a heart and then the skin is sewn around the flesh.”

Now he wants one, I made it sound too cool.

I fear we really have no grasp of how civically damaging it's going to be to suddenly have an entire generation emerge whose brains have not been fundamentally shaped by regular engagement with lengthy texts.
In American high schools, many teenagers are assigned few full books to read from beginning to end — often just one or two per year, according to researchers and thousands of responses to an informal reader survey by The New York Times. trib.al/gNp7kWK

The internet is fast becoming so choked with this, it'll be unusable. We'll all be boats chugging blindly through the gloom and the muck, finding nothing, barely each other, uncertain what's true or even real anymore.
googled something and clicked a link to a website I'd never heard of that looked like a forum, read the discussion and realized the person asking a question and all of the answers were all LLM generated, the entire website was a fake forum pretending to be people asking/answering questions

@erinbiba.bsky.social I don’t know why but I seriously read this as “my colleagues are ~9.25 feet” and I thought, “whoa, Erin works with giants?”
Ok internet smartypants. If I want a ladder that’s tall enough for me to *comfortably* reach my ceiling without stretching how tall should it be?

I am 5’3” and my ceilings are ~9.25 feet.

My current ladder is more of a tall step stool at 2.5 and is inadequate.
