NEW: If ICE was a national military it would be the 13th biggest in the world, IPS @nationalpriorities.bsky.social researchers found.

To make ICE less deadly, Democratic leadership must focus less on weak reforms and more on cutting its colossal funding. @ahjohnson.bsky.social in @therealnews.com:
In response to the Renee Good killing, Dems propose ICE reforms that would have done nothing to prevent the Renee Good killing
Good’s killer was a 10-year ICE veteran, himself a trainer, and recorded the killing. What good would more training and more cameras have done?

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.
“Everybody Showed Up”: Stunning Crowds at Minnesota Day of Strike and Shutdown Against ICE
Extreme cold didn't stop the shutdown on Friday as some 100 faith leaders were arrested, residents stayed home from work, and an estimated 50,000 or more marched through downtown Minneapolis.

ICE detain yet another minor child—chase him down his own street and tackle him to pavement.

"I am legal! I am legal!" he cries over and over in Spanish.

Agent pins the boy down in snow—he desperately tries to keep his exposed hands from freezing at -25°F wind chill temperature.

If there's anyone who still thinks this will all blow over when our big beautiful president Leaves Us, you have to realize the Republican Party is crawling with fascists

It's already demoralizing to be a federal thug, a barely sentient ogre. Nobody likes or respects you. But then you go to work in -19 weather thinking surely today you'll get a break from people yelling at you. But no there they are. They're not even cold
Outside the Twin Cities this morning, where it is -19F—

Minnesotans are gathered early outside the Whipple Federal Building. ICE and DHS agents currently arriving at work to much disapproval.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.
Disabled son of ICE detainee dies after 30 days of hospitalization
It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

I just want people who are seeing the crowd pics to know, every single piece of Mpls infrastructure was strained to the limit today to get people there. I’m able bodied and prepared, was outside for 2 hours and still never made it bc our trains downtown were never meant to be packed like they were.

There is nothing more inspiring in American politics right now than the way Minneapolis has banded together and refused to be broken by the administration’s attempts to batter them into submission.

This is such an important point. That 5-year-old and his dad should never been detained in the first place! That's because they were already in the system and going through the legal process to seek asylum — and their arrest was seemingly just to juice ICE's numbers.
This kid and his father entered via CBP One app. It's just absurd and monumentally unfair for people who availed themselves of lawful channels when they existed by following government processes to suddenly get detained and deported to a third country.

From SF's affordable housing portal today: accepting incomes up to $218,796 per year. Meanwhile, many people who make food, keep things clean, take care of the very old and very young, etc, don't qualify, and are rent-burdened at as little as $1000 per month, even with SF's high minimum wage.

If every Democrat voted NO on funding ICE, it would not have passed the House. But, 7 House Democrats voted to fund Trump's lawless, masked goons, so it passed.

Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his members to vote against ICE funding. Genuinely unforgivable.
NEW: DHS appropriations bill funding ICE passes 220-207

7 Democrats voted YES on the bill:
- Jared Golden
- Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
- Henry Cuellar
- Tom Suozzi
- Laura Gillen
- Don Davis
- Vicente Gonzalez

One Republican voted NO: Thomas Massie
