i’m so sick of the way people feel entitled to cheap clothes. people are taking “no ethical consumption under capitalism” to mean “don’t blame me if there were slaves in the supply chain.”

clothes should cost money—the solution is that you need less clothes, and that you should be paying a lot more

People are already trying to retcon climate change as something capitalism solved or is solving when

1. Let’s not put the cart before the horse
2. An economic system that allows 1.5 C - 2.5+ C of warming and the death and environmental destruction that comes with that is simply not good enough

It’s a fascinating attempt to twist what people are very obviously trying to say, which is just that capitalism as a system is structurally invested in endless accumulation and that this systemic drive produces ecological destruction regardless of individual intentions, into a stupid caricature

For example, I get that he feels like giggling about Trump being a fascist will help him achieve his goals

The society I would like to build doesn’t have that pathway I guess
I don’t really consider mamdani to be a traitor I just think reformists theory of societal change is wrong

And I've been doing politics for long enough to know clearly that the entire Senate Democratic caucus agreed to this decision to fold. Open your eyes. The 8 who "broke" did so with the complete blessing of Schumer and their colleagues. You don't have to play along because this is not a game. The end

Making the active choice to withhold emergency funding and starve large swaths of the country is “political violence” and it should be reported and viewed as such
Seeing conservative commentators joyfully mock poor people and their children horrified at the prospect of going hungry really puts a laser focus into how completely full of shit they were while clutching their pearls over “political violence”.

The world continues to ignore Sudan and every day, things get worse. So much suffering met with silence.
Staggering atrocities in Sudan.

Following the mass slaughter of nearly 500 men, women, and children at a maternity hospital, UN officials say: "The situation is simply horrifying... El Fasher, already the scene of catastrophic levels of human suffering, has descended into an even darker hell."

This will be a long thread on yesterday police massacre in Rio.

In nothern Rio de Janeiro city, there is a couple of hills called Complexo da Penha. It's Comando Vermelho("Red Command", a drug gang), or CV, territory.

CV is the greatest gang in Rio, second in the whole Brazil.

🧵 Awful awful massacre in Brazil
Gente, é o maior massacre no Brasil desde o Araguaia.

We live in a racist country and have racists who sit on the Supreme Court, making racist decisions that impact 350 million people for decades.

First they abolish the New Deal; then they abolish the Great Society - just so White men can stay in power.

Whenever anarchism — or any idea more radical than the status quo — gets dismissed as unserious, it's worth remembering the current system runs on things like "we put all the money on a scam machine that tells rich dipshits they're god."
"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."

Aint it like White people to spend centuries invading and colonizing countries they had no business being in, and then have the gall to turn around and tell immigrants they're not welcome on the land they stole.

I want a politics that widens the circle to include everyone, not one that shrinks the circle by throwing *undesirables* under the bus. I think this is basic. I am interested in a politics that is rooted at the sources of people's suffering. I am interested in a politics that attends to basic needs.

if you can't sell the american public on the idea that federal troops in the streets is fundamentally unacceptable then you have no business being in politics. and if you do not forcibly believe this at your core such that you can't shut up about it, that goes double for you
Toxic feedback loop has kicked in: Trump's propagandists tell credulous reporters that occupying cities is good politics for him. Media echoes this as self-evidently true. That reinforces Dem instincts not to engage.

it's no coincidence that the role of "helping people understand how to think through what art means" is being eliminated at the same time a bunch of assholes are trying to convince us that art doesn't mean anything
I occasionally copy edited Siskel back in the day at Chi Tribune. Yes. This ongoing diminishment of critics is a travesty.

As @samadams.bsky.social has said, if Ebert and Siskel launched their show now, it would be just two empty chairs. 👎👎
Didn't Gene Siskel write for the Tribune?? This is a travesty!

The problem is, like with immigration, instead of saying “actually, that’s not a problem”

Democrats agree with the fascist framing and then propose half measure solutions, leading people to just vote for the reactionary party

They help produce these crime and immigration narratives they lose on
Here's the thing: If you believe that Republicans can always win on crime by simply declaring there to be a crime emergency in a major city, irrespective of any actual policing or criminal justice policies being pursued by the city government, then you are just saying that Democrats can't win.

I'm serious: If the literal things our enemies are doing are not bad enough for you to say "hey maybe this guy isn't actually on my side," then *What Is*?
