I think it’s unfair to claim that Trump is only attacking Venezuela because he wants to sell their oil to his rich friends. It’s also possible Trump is attacking Venezuela because he wants to sell their children to his rich friends.

Trump is president to begin with because a critical share of Americans don't really care about norms and legalities. As a matter of politics, probably best to say that this was the act of a stupid and dishonest man, who doesn't really care about drugs, that could pull us into a deeper conflict.

A lot of people forget how in 2004 the Bush regime kidnapped the democratically elected President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and dumped him in Africa.
Is there any modern precedent for abducting a head of state?

Plenty of examples of coups, assassinations and domestic trials, including show trials, but this is like a Crusader Kings plot.

Se os EUA deixarem a vice assumir, como essa postagem diz, vale ler a biografia da vice-presidenta da Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez.

Ela é militante histórica do chavismo. Foi ministra da comunicação, do petróleo e das RIs da Venezuela, era mulher de confiança de Chavez e presidenta do partido.+
Greg Grandin offers his reading of what is transpiring in Venezuela.

We’re starting to get statements from the *checks notes* …opposition party?

Remember that the US *does not care* about the people of Venezuela. It is not about "narcotrafficking", or "democracy", or whatever propaganda they have going. It is *explicitly* about US control over oil, capital accumulation, and geopolitical power.

Trump is immune from all prosecution and yet anyone in the world can be subjected to the jurisdiction of the United States at any moment. If it wasn't already clear, the supposed "rights" of the liberal democratic order concern only the right the dominate at will.

Democrats don't oppose Trump on the border. They don't oppose him on Israel. They've already expressed support for regime change in Venezuela. They will back him on this. We don't have an opposition party and it infuriates me to no end.

Sincerely, when th US coups a foreign country, If you even think "what about the tourists?", you are a despicable ghoul.

Afte every coup in LATAM, there is a native nations genocide. Dozens killed for being native americans.

If you have no knowledge or empathy, just shut the fuck up.

What kind of kanguru court will Bondi amass to convict a president that wasn't involved in drugs trafficking of an insane charge like "narcoterrorism"?
So we’re just announcing foreign strikes and kidnappings of foreign leaders on social media now? No Congress. No explanation.

This is madness.

Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.
