My cynicism says it’s also because they’re aware of climate change and its effects on food stability. So they’re trying to “program” themselves to live without it.

And yeah, they’re also joyless assholes.
Ask your nearest CEO what they’re favorite food is and see what they say. If they are all about Soylent and supplements as a way to fuel their productivity but have no interest in the beautiful sensation of food itself, BE WARY!!

I love this. Children are the foundation of society and we should always treat them like they belong!
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

Living in this liminal space where things get worse millimetre by agonizing millimetre, where you have to be aware just enough to brace but also mime normal because if you don't YOU'RE the problem is so draining.

These kids had to be walked to prison by school officials bcz there is no family to take them. They have committed no crime and didn’t get a trial. They are in prison and are in 3rd and 5th grade.

North America as a whole cages 35 kids for every 100k kids

The US? 49 kids per 100k overall

Latino kids? 57

Indigenous kids? 181

Black kids? 228

Zero. None. And that’s forever! Not temporarily or accidentally. Not one child ever.
The only acceptable number of children for any government to kidnap and traffic and cage is zero, every year
The number of children in ICE detention on a given day has skyrocketed, jumping more than sixfold since the start of the second Trump administration. We analyzed data obtained by the Deportation Data Project and found that ICE held around 170 children on an average day under Trump.

For the people who keep saying we should wait for midterms. That man has been broadcasting his plans since day 1.
Ossoff: "This is a seismic event. This should have people across the country absolutely shook. This is a huge deal. This is an FBI raid on the Fulton County Elections office ... This is a shot across the bow at the midterm elections. He tried to steal power when he lost it in 2020."

I know everyone is applauding Ilhan Omar for continuing to speak after being attacked but I sincerely wished she would have gone to get checked out instead.

I have been writing researching and writing about threats to Ilhan Omar for like 8 years and so I don't mean to go all Bluesky Discourse™ on a viral moment

I just see in her my friends who I worry about and I'm still shaken. That was too close. My article (well my research) from 2019
He easily found hundreds of death threats against Rep. Ilhan Omar. He wants Twitter to stop them.
Cybersecurity expert Chad Loder said he’s been frustrated by the platform’s seeming inability to crack down on accounts that espouse racist, homophobic and violent rhetoric.

To clarify, I fully support Ilhan Omar being ready to rock that dude's shit (it's a good lesson in what happens when someone oversteps) I just just know how my BW friends are TIRED and I don't want us always celebrating them as fierce when bad shit happens, give them money and support REGARDLESS

I don't want to celebrate how Ilhan Omar was ready to throw down. Tired of valorizing Black women as fighters, that dude should have been stopped and stomped out before he got close to her.

i think a lot of well meaning people underestimate how many people actually like, trust, and want to keep funding a militarized police force. the "aversion" to the word "abolish" is that people want to keep cops around.
Question for the crowd:

Why do you think moderates, liberals, and other folks are scared or have an aversion to the word “abolish”?

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

So once ice vehicles have been discovered and are being followed, they often become incapable of doing their sinister work.

This is why people risk their lives to tail federal agents, all over the twin cities and the suburbs.

Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.
