Yes but can we at least revalue the currency so I'm paying less than £5 a pint (I know I'm not really but the psychological damage caused by getting no change from a tenner for a beer is surely impacting the nations health)
There has been one (1) period of sustained deflation (eg prices down for multiple years in a row) since the 1910s. That was the Great Depression. I understand why people (not Chris, he gets it) naively think prices should fall but I cannot emphasize enough how Bad that would be.

my favorite fact about james garfield's death is that alexander graham bell invented the metal detector specifically to try to find the bullet in him. this also didn't work
when president garfield was dying, they shoved a bunch of stuff up his butt in the hopes it would save him. it didn't work, in fact it definitely killed him quicker. but if any white house guys are reading this: you're the chosen one, you can make it work
