Still pseudonymous for work reasons.
Regulation, justice, climate - are among things I work on.
Science fiction, Baroque music, Frank Zappa are things I don't work on and enjoy very much.

The funny thing about Oates taking Musk out to the cornfield and beating him with an aluminum bat is he was JUST pretending to have read Tolkien for his endorsement of Tommy Robinson. When she called him out, it seems like he forgot all about that and started inventing other books he's read instead.

While upset with Senate Dems continues, this is an important reminder that it is Donald Trump who decimated medicaid & ended the ACA subsidies and it is Donald Trump who will do whatever it takes to decimate, if not completely destroy, the ACA.
Why is Trump going after America's air traffic controllers, today of all days?
It's one more way to distract from his decision to increase your health insurance premiums."

Still dubious there is any message that would do the trick but this is a definite contender and certainly vastly better than saying “you don’t understand how the Senate works”
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

NEW: I wrote about Nasa's rather incredible system for detecting tsunamis, in near real-time, by *analysing GNSS signals*.
Some tsunamis are so big, they cause ripples in the Earth's atmosphere big enough to affect GPS.

'It sounded kind of crazy': How ripples in the high atmosphere warned scientists of a tsunami in real time
Tsunamis are notoriously difficult to spot on the open ocean as they race towards shore. But in the summer of 2025, scientists watched one unfold as it happened.

Yes, exactly, you and five neighbors can team up and negotiate a deal directly with a hospital. Sure, bruh.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

In the depths of my most significant isolation, when I was 15-16 years old, it was the internet which gave me a home and community when I needed it.
In a world where trans people face constant persecution and demonisation by radicalised adults the internet remains their safe harbour.
That matters.

Where the internet is a place of community for them for too many, especially in our media and political class, it has become a venue for radicalisation and reinforcement of bigotry against trans people.
So why are we talking about taking mobiles off kids instead of those who do most damage?

At that age I spent my break periods at school in the library, because it was the only place I could go where the threat of assault was negligible.
Today it is trans people who face that threat. And not just kids. Our politicians and media have driven that threat of violence far wider.

It’s insane to treat the filibuster as the most sacrosanct.
Article 1 power of the purse, oversight, and war? Nah.
Emoluments clauses? Bribery prohibition? Meh.
Criminal law? 14A? Doesn’t count.
But maybe the Senate changes a rule it has multiple times before? Gasp! Not that. Anything but that.
