Please keep front of mind that Bluesky is funded by venture capital (VC) money, and there will likely come a time when return on investment takes centre stage.

Don't build too much of a castle on someone else's land, especially when intentions might not align.

Take care and plan accordingly.

My no-fun-at-parties take is that "christmas is a secular holiday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that christianity is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a christian holiday!! Just because you're an atheist doesn't make it secular!

Think the marriage of convenience between the Israeli right and the historically antisemitic global far-right has been bad for Diaspora Jews? Wait until you see the divorce.
Kelly said the Republican party, especially the youth, are changing their opinion about Israel

That there was a time when you weren't allowed to question Israel and she's sick of it

That she doesn't think Israel killed Kirk but she supports Candace Owens asking those questions

we already had access to every library in the world. it was called jstor and you made nerds hang themselves for accessing it without paying
Jesus fucking Christ. No, LLM won’t help you learn more. Why? Because when you read a summary (EVEN IF it’s correct, which is not a given) you are missing out on the process which is arguably more important than the result 🧵

Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?

36. Finally this. The mark of the fossil fuel shill who never loses the arrogance to walk into a room, say "the sun doesn't shine at night and its not always windy", drop the mic and leave, confident that no one else knows what they just discovered.

anyway becoming communist will not make you happier, will not make your goals any more achievable and it won't make you more liked or respected. but you will be able to win more arguments online which if he was alive today is what karl marx would care most about

People like to tell me that React isn't the problem ("it's only 50KB"), and I agree: library choices in a vacuum don't say much, but a culture that walks past 5-10x over-spend on client-side dependencies, day in and day out?

That culture is failing.

Look man I don’t think the people being poisoned by data centers really care if you remove the generated assets before shipping, and I don’t really care if you “only” use the machine that stole my shit and convinced teens to off themselves for internal PowerPoints.

Cool motive. Still bullshit tho.

Anarchism has some problems as a theoretical framework, but its basic formula of:

- no masters above
- no servants below
- chuck a bomb at the czar every once in a while

Almost never fails to be correct.

So, an agency that wants to run ads for gambling funded Australia’s (terrible, misguided, authoritarian) campaign to ban teens from social media because now the government is abandoning a plan to ban gambling ads citing the age verification law as a rationale www.crikey.com.au/2025/12/12/p...
Teen social media ban lobby group 36 Months funded and co-staffed by firm making gambling ads
The revelation comes as the government is expected to abandon plans for an online gambling ad ban, using the teen social media ban as cover.

The ALP need to realise they will be criticised whatever they do, so how about do things that are good? And do things to please those who voted for you not those who never will.
The AFR run a 2 year campaign to get the ALP to weaken the changes to super tax concessions to make it easier to avoid paying the tax.

The ALP does it.

The AFR criticises the ALP for weakening the policy because people can avoid paying the tax.

A new report on the amount of revenue expected to be raised by the changes to superannuation tax on balances over $3m highlights yet again how the tax system is weighted in favour of the rich and that...

Something I have to reiterate is that you are being straight up lied to about trans people and our healthcare on an unfathomable scale, this instance reporting is already being torn to shreds by other people commenting, but the frequency of this kind of reporting is astonishing, it's neverending.
You might think from the headline that this is a story about a trans kid suffering medical consequences from a large drug dose but nope! It is just an interview with an estranged father who is angry that his child happily transitioned.
