Ah a good way to never hire any foreigners, great job
This article advocates for the “Faculty Merit Act” that would — get this — require all faculty applicants to submit their *SAT* scores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy shirts that’s hilarious.

I personally don’t care who is on Twitter but I do have a job that sort of hinges on people being able to find me and I worried about that when I killed my account but I feel pretty confident that people are still finding the podcast which is really all I care about.

Grudge-holding is very important for me. I held a grudge against Jon Stewart since 2003, and when ppl started airing his bad takes on COVID, I was like yup, knew it since 2003. Transphobia is usually the first giveaway of a shit person.
I feel in my bones that the wave has started to crash back in and Certain People/Companies who thought they were safe to abandon everyone they’d been pretending to care about will suddenly realize that those people have money/power and I, for one, will be holding a grudge until the end of time 💜

@rikiwilchins.bsky.social 2026 Jan 2 ABC: What started in the NC House as an online porn age verification law was transformed by Senate into anti-trans one: Jan 1st NC recognizes only 2 genders, bans state funding for teens' GAC & allows 10-yr look-back for lawsuits against doctors who provide it.
New law in NC only recognizes male, female sexes as part of HB 805; other mandates in the bill
This change stems from House Bill 805, a comprehensive measure passed by the State Legislature last summer.

Reflexive completism is a scourge, like those early genAIs that “showed” you what’s behind the frame of the Mona Lisa etc., as if main artistic limitation is “canvas too small”.

But yeah, gotta milk every franchise for all we can. There’s no art, only IP.
sometimes a thing can be successful and it can just end, with no prequels or sequels or reboots. it exists and is appreciated but it doesn’t need anything, its story has been told

Working hypothesis: if you are a frequent hiker/do any kind of field work, The Blair Witch Project is deeply irritating rather than scary.

Grendel, honestly. An ur-text for us monsters.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

I've seen the Thin Man movies a hundred times but have had them on all day as I did things around the apartment. Still, after all these years and all these viewings, at every night scene when they're in separate beds a part of me always screams, "What is this? Nick and Nora fuck!"

I would’ve preferred to read this without any context but still: pretty good!
It remains hilarious to me that they are trying to run the Raging Bull awards campaign for a movie about a guy who plays ping pong

When I was editing Bloody Fabulous, a spec fic anthology about fashion, I received a lot of stories from people who thought they could fake it. One memorable example was someone describing a model who liked Fluevog shoes and described them as “luxury”. Now this article

Blockbuster interview about institutional transphobia at the New York Times that names names of the bigots responsible: A.G. Sulzberger, Joe Kahn, Carolyn Ryan at the top, plus Pamela Paul, Jeremy Peters, Azeen Ghorayshi, Katie J.M. Baker, & an entire anti-trans pro-mgmt splinter group in the union
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.
