The President of the United States just called for my arrest and execution.

In these moments, fear is contagious, but so is courage:

We absolutely love to see it
NEW: The Court has ruled that the National Guard deployment to DC is illegal and granted a preliminary injunction.

As we made clear from the beginning: the US military should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

This is a victory for DC, Home Rule, and American democracy.

I saw screenshots this morning of Trump threatening members of Congress with death for this video but I hadn't seen the video. So if, like me, you've been inadequately online this week, this is what Trump thinks is worthy of EXECUTION.
We want to speak directly to members of the Military and the Intelligence Community.

The American people need you to stand up for our laws and our Constitution.

Don’t give up the ship.

I had so much fun at this event!! Thank you @charliejane.bsky.social for coming to DC despite the terrible vibes and bringing the positive, hopeful, and creative energy we need. I'm so excited to dig into the book!!!

I'm a big fan of In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. I've been thinking about it a lot this year for absolutely no reason at all...
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Harm to civilians in conflict can encompass entire communities. My former colleagues @jwrchappell.bsky.social and @annieshiel.bsky.social created a comprehensive guide for providing community-based amends in a manner that priorities humanity and dignity, and enables people to rebuild their lives.

The part I hate the most about this is how absolutely on brand this small-minded, misogynist bullying is for him. He's been doing this for decades (remember the Rosie O'Donnell rants?) and yet he's still been elevated twice to the highest office in the land

One of the reasons why it irks me when people refer to gender violence as “interpersonal violence.” It’s intimate, sure, but gender violence is in fact very *impersonal*—it’s specifically about stripping women of their personal qualities and dignity in order to reduce them to their gendered status.
Important to understand that sexual violence is political violence, enacted specifically to enforce class, race, and, yes, gender hierarchies.
I sometimes feel like they don’t want to end poverty or reduce inequality because they believe they’re entitled to a class of people they can prey upon

I represent dozens (yes, dozens) of people raped by guards in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

It sure would be nice if DOJ gave a tenth as much of a shit when it comes to compensating them.
NEW: DOJ has been in settlement talks with Michael Flynn -- Trump's first national security adviser seeking $50M for his prosecution by ex-special counsel Robert Mueller -- and Stefan Passantino, a Trump I White House lawyer who accused the House Jan. 6 committee of privacy violations

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

“There was a lot of tension that was created from the fact that there were military vehicles, jeeps, trucks and personnel kind of almost setting up camp on the campus,” Mr. Cleary said. “That created a tension between the students and the guardsmen.”

These same tensions permeate US cities today

Getting into strength training two years ago was one of the best decisions I ever made. No one can claim you are weak when you know you are strong
Strength training is political. We have a right-wing which has taken over physical fitness spaces, and hijacked “warrior culture”.

We need a muscular progressivist visions. We need to be strong to build the world we want.

Horrific thread detailing conditions inside Broadview ICE Detention Center in Chicago. Coming from the international human rights world, I can't help but think of how we'd be talking about this if it were happening in, say, Russia.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

I'm on the ADL's mailing list, and they sent a letter calling for an special emergency briefing on Mamdani being elected mayor of NYC last night.

They did not do this when Tucker Carlson hosted a neo-Nazi and was defended by the think tank that is staffing the entire Trump administration.

This statement is true, and Steve also knows what I‘m about to say, so this is just additional commentary not a correction:

This is not new. Cops have been doing this for ages. Talk back to a cop and they’ll rough you up. They have been doing this and getting away with it for a very long time.
It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.
