Lawyer. Not your lawyer. Mother. Not your mother.

By day (and frankly nights and weekends), a civil rights lawyer for people who are incarcerated. Other times, just exhausted.

Washington DC based.
Real human beings also don't morph into different faces.

It's a movie. Not a PhD thesis on history
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

I just started watching Alien Earth, and to tell the truth, I find the idea of creatures that could devour all humankind crashing down upon us very relaxing right now

"Democratic capitulators whose seats would be filled by Democratic governors in the event of vacancy (Durbin, Fetterman, Kaine, King) should be under immense pressure to resign mid-session. Now, even. Or in Kaine’s case, after Abigail Spanberger is sworn in. If your senator fits that bill, get loud"

As literally everyone knowledgeable predicted.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court DENIES former county clerk Kim Davis's request for the justices to take up her longshot bid to overturn 2015's Obergefell v. Hodges marriage equality decision. No justice even writes about the request.

I need one of you with actual musical talent and skill to make a hard driving modern version of Helen Reddy's I Am Woman. Picture Hole covering it.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Absolutely right here. The old foundation is gone. By dropping the ability to show that the federal government does important things and shouldn't be indiscriminately slashed, they just handed all the keys to Trumpists. We're not getting them back
I get why the people most directly personally impacted by the government shutdown are saying things like this but "the entire underpinnings of the country" have *already* collapsed and pretending they haven't isn't helpful
👇There it is, the alternative was to keep federal employees unpaid for 13 MONTHS. How the fuck do you think that would play out? A collapse of the entire underpinnings of the country, that's how.

This vote has not happened yet. Call your Senators, especially your Democratic Senators, and tell them that a deal without protection NOW for health insurance tax credits is unacceptable.

What do you do when you keep waking up in the middle of the night mad about something that happened, something about which you have no recourse?

Truly love this strategy. It's the Bobby McGee theory - freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose. Grab the freedom to tell the truth
I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

I finally understand why we do these redundancies!

Truly thought I was just dumb for not understanding the difference between ceasing and desisting
There's almost as much French hidden in the American/British legal systems as there is Latin. Doublets like "aid and abet", "cease and desist", etc. - the first word is from Old English, the second from French. Vocabulary like court, judge, jury, state, sovereign, tax, estate, contract, felony...

Because of my specialty, 99% of the time I'm suing the government. Because I'm a trial lawyer, I help support candidates who support legislation that helps the people.

That is how, this morning, I ended up on my way to a fundraiser for my opposing counsel.

My life is so weird

Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

One of our country's greatest war criminals just died, the president is arguing with himself about whether or not to let 40 million people starve, and there is an actual courtroom drama about a five dollar footlong.

How are any of us supposed to maintain emotional regulation.

If the court orders the jury Subway take out for lunch, My faith in the Federal judiciary may end up restored
Lairmore testifies that other agents gave him a plush sandwich toy, which he placed on the shelf in his office, and a patch that said "Felony Footlong," which he put on his lunch box.

Lairmore has chuckled with the rest of us at times. Defense really trying to underscore the unseriousness of it all

Onions and mustard, yum!
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."
