@dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social
Dad, listener, and third-generation DC resident 🏛️. Honored to fight for our communities every day as DC’s independent Attorney General ⚖️. Official Account 🦋.
2025 marked a decade since the Office of the Attorney General became an independent, elected position that is directly accountable to DC residents.

We will keep working every day to uphold Washingtonians' trust and defend our rights, safety, and self-governance.

And as DC's Chief Legal Officer, OAG defends the District from lawsuits and in other legal matters.

Through these efforts, OAG saves DC taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars each year to help fund our schools, public transit, health care, and fire and police emergency service departments.
February 4, 2026 at 3:04 PM
Over the past year, OAG fought to protect workers, consumers, seniors, and our environment.

We took strong legal action to curb wage theft, worker misclassification, water and air pollution, nonprofit violations, corporate abuses, and scams targeting the elderly in the District.

DC residents need safe, affordable housing.

In 2025, we secured our first settlement in the RealPage rent-fixing case, stood up for tenants facing appalling conditions, dismantled a scheme to exploit housing vouchers, and advocated for measures to create new affordable housing.
February 4, 2026 at 3:04 PM
In 2025, we filed dozens of lawsuits opposing the federal government's illegal actions.

This included challenging mass federal layoffs, the suspension of SNAP benefits, and the federal takeover of MPD.

Our actions helped preserve access to $300+ million in federal funds for DC.
February 4, 2026 at 3:04 PM
We also expanded our efforts to support children and families in DC.

OAG collected and distributed child support for 50,000 children, placed 147 children from our foster system in permanent homes, worked to reduce school truancy, and engaged hundreds of young people with impactful youth programs.
February 4, 2026 at 3:04 PM
Our top priority is keeping DC residents safe.

In 2025, OAG improved public safety by supporting crime victims, defending the District's gun laws, prosecuting juvenile crime, closing illegal cannabis shops, holding reckless drivers accountable, and advancing legislation to reduce youth recidivism.
February 4, 2026 at 3:04 PM
NEW: We just released our 2025 Impact Report.

Every year, we update DC residents about our work fighting for them as the independent Office of the Attorney General.

In a year where every dollar mattered, OAG secured $906.8 million in savings and benefits for the District and its residents.

The proposed cuts to the Washington Post Metro Section should alarm every DC resident.

Local Post reporters play an indispensable role informing the public, elevating community voices, covering crises, and holding power to account.

The Washington Post should cover Washington. #SaveThePost

“In D.C, legal accountability for prevailing wage violations extends all the way up the contracting chain — if your company or any of its subcontractors are underpaying workers, all of you can be held accountable.”

Child support payments should support children.

That is the driving principle for a set of reforms to the District's child support system that we are proposing.

Once enacted, some of DC's most vulnerable families will get precious dollars that previously funded operational costs.

The Child Support Improvement Amendment Act of 2026 aims to ensure that child support payments go directly to the children and families in need.

Today, I proudly introduced a bill to reform our child support system to make sure child support payments are fully going into the pockets of the families they are intended to help.
Thank you @dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social & @cmfrumin.bsky.social for your partnership on this important bill.

Thank you @cmbrookepinto.bsky.social and @cmfrumin.bsky.social for leading the charge on this legislation.

We already took a major step towards these reforms in the DC budget last year.

Now, we can go even further in expanding financial support for children and families in DC.

Once these reforms are enacted, the District will join Illinois and Maryland as the only states that give all child support collections and arrears directly to families.

And we will focus fewer resources on challenging debt collection operations — and more resources on directly supporting families.
January 29, 2026 at 1:44 PM
The bill also amends the child support statute of limitations to last until the child is 26.

By doing so, collection efforts can focus on payments that are due while the child is still young.

Currently, every child support payment is a standalone obligation expiring in 12 years, unless renewed.
January 29, 2026 at 1:44 PM
Now, we will leverage changes in federal law to reform the District's child support system for the better.

Our legislation requires ALL child support payments and arrears for families receiving TANF to go directly to families.

As a result, families could receive hundreds of dollars more per month.
January 29, 2026 at 1:44 PM
This is known as a “cost-recovery model.”

But this system makes non-custodial parents less likely to pay child support, diverts resources to debt collection, and reduces aid for low-income families that need it.

To qualify for TANF assistance, a family of four must make less than $13,000 a year.
January 29, 2026 at 1:44 PM
In the current system, part of the child support payments collected for families that receive TANF are withheld.

These funds then cover operational costs of child support collection by DC and the federal government.

That means TANF families only get part of their child support intended for them.
January 29, 2026 at 1:44 PM
NEW: We are proposing long-overdue reforms to the District's child support system.

These reforms will ensure that every cent parents pay in child support directly benefits kids — not fund operational costs.

Once implemented, vulnerable families in DC will get a much-needed increase in support.

So many of the rights DC residents have today were made possible by Eleanor Holmes Norton — our Warrior on the Hill.

No one has done more to move the District closer to self-governance, equality, and full representation.

Rep. @eleanornorton.bsky.social, thank you for your leadership and service.
