My family’s news from this spring: Elon fired my sister the day she learned she has breast cancer.

Here’s a bit of what it’s been like for her as one of the civil servants fighting to preserve our public services, at the same time that she’s fighting for her life.

Might someone be so kind as to explain to me the appeal of online-streamer personalities?

To be clear, I get why tons of people want to *be* one, but why do people enjoy watching them?

(Asking because I'm a clueless Gen-Xer but really curious about their potential for left narrative-shaping)

In fashion, essentially anything can become a trend.
Once thought of as a purely practical layer worn by older women on kimjang day — the annual family marathon of making huge batches of kimchi — the kimjang vest has made an unlikely leap into the style spotlight.

In less than 2 weeks, this has already filled more than 500 of 1000 slots, which is fantastic (the faster enrollment’s complete, the sooner results read out).

If you have any offline friends w/Long Covid, please do share so they hear about it! It’s a 50% chance to try an expensive med for free.
Just heard about this huge (49 state) long covid trial using tirzepetide (aka zepbound) one of the newer glp meds. It’s run by researchers at scripps, funded by the eric & wendy schmidt foundation. It looks like it is still enrolling, fully remote participation:

Can personally vouch for how much time Sarah personally spends cleaning up other people’s shite messes, including providing support to me when they come after me. It’s not fair.
I truly do not believe that most men, including "the good ones" understand how much of our careers get spent on this.
The skillset I have learned up including how to file protection orders, navigate countless procedures that target survivors, how to protect ourselves, friends, and students...

I'm doing Summer's essay camp again. It's fun, low-pressure, and helps you create a place to play with ideas you might have otherwise left moldering in your notebook. I always come out the other side having discovered something unexpected on the page.

I love writing op-eds.

@teenvogue.com was my main outlet, but if there are any others (especially independently ran) that are looking for a contributing writer on race, gender, and the economy, I'd love to work with you.

This is my sense too. It feels like wishing for a deus ex machina, when (not just for worse, arguably also for better?) fate’s in our hands.
i'll be honest i find the epstien stuff similar to the "constitutional crisis" stuff. like, it just seems rooted in the wrong idea that there are actual mechanisms of accountability that will just automatically kick into effect if certain facts "come to light"

pretty sure only resistance does that

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.
