It's great when the "we'll run your university like a business" types get administration positions because they always show you two things: they don't know how universities work and they are actually very bad at running businesses.
My former employer, the University of Nottingham, has axed its undergrad music and languages programs—but don't worry, there are still five separate degrees you can get in AI.
This is what happens when you corporatize education. What a joke.

I hate that our society treats "politics" as synonymous with "electoral politics" & what's great about Zohran is that he's both an elected official and also his campaign showed that the people united will never be defeated, billionaires be damned. That's all politics, & it's what politics should be.

Phone-banking today. Older folks answer calls. Younger folks answer calls. Millennials (my people) decline every call immediately.
Younger folks, are you more resilient than us? Don't you know you can ignore calls from strangers? Do you like the horrid contact machine in your pocket? What's up?

If you ever need an organizing mood lift, just spend some time with grad worker union stewards. They are creative and action-oriented, they get shit done, and they're not convinced by academia's focus on hierarchies & "collegiality." Truly a moment of groundedness in the maelstrom that is higher ed.
