The theory in the paper is that it's not the superhero per se, but that unexpected events in general increase mindfulness and thus pro-social behavior

So act weird and make people behave better.
Science will often take you to unexpected and delightful places. In this study, researchers hypothesized that riders in a crowded subway car would be more likely to offer their seat to a pregnant person if there were someone in the subway car dressed as Batman 🧪🦇

Pausing to celebrate: massive presence of real Minnesotans who do not want their neighbors taken by any federal agency. Massive pushback and attempt to stop the kidnapping. 100s got down there including at least one news photog and elected officials. If you have been training, congratulate yourself.

When you hear someone say we can’t do active or public transportation in the US, just know we are the global outlier - an aberrant society missing something that the rest of the world has already discovered or never forgot
This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

started my knitting and drinking and watching election results come in when polls closed in MN and that was a mistake because now im at the point in this pattern where I have to remember a lot of complicated stitches and I have had enough beer that I'm not sure my muscle memory is up to the task

I feel like this is an important aspect to emphasize, loudly, to everyone who endorsed Cuomo. they chose to side with a known sexual predator for personal gain and frankly that should be disqualifying for public office. you knew who he was and decided the women he hurt were acceptable losses
it's been a really bad long shitty time for people who care about victims of rape and sexual abuse, and those who've suffered it. drubbing someone who perpetrated it gleefully and believed he was entitled to power despite it is part of this.

as cheesy as it might sound i cannot recommend enough standing in a crowd of hundreds/thousands(?) of people and chanting “you don’t scare us” at armed fascists. it’s a good first step to getting yourself to deeply believe it

god protect train operators who give little pep talks and greetings when they get on the loudspeaker. I love you all so much for real
