dramatic foggy nights like these make me want to waste money on a wide angle for my mirrorless, phone cam will have to do!
I was more financially stable as a grad student with part time local government work than as an entry level Senate staffer. Even with the somewhat higher wages now they're still jobs for rich kids or those willing to pile up CC debt for the beans and rice diet.
I have long argued that the single best thing you could do to improve the functioning of the US government is double the salaries of everyone working on Capitol Hill. Serving Congress shouldn’t involve poverty wages in DC. You could attract a much wider set of perspectives netting a better result.
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

Wild that this is the same spot! I used to wait for the 114 bus at this stop every morning and it felt like you were practically standing in the freeway on-ramp, and that shelter would somewhat regularly get smashed by car crashes. Now it's so spacious and somewhat calmer!

Today I baked cinnamon rolls, rewatched one of my favorite movies, listened to the (fantastic) new Tame Impala album, read a good chunk of a romance novel, and burned lots of candles. Quality cozy Sunday!

Today I made chilli and cornbread, and packed away my shorts and sandals. Sad to admit the delightfully long summer is indeed over.

Not sure I can watch House Hunters anymore, too many of the buyers are my age and going gaga over gray LVP. Ashamed of my generation 😣

Midway Airport has got to be the worst airport in the country to get stuck at on a long delay, miserable place.

It's officially Grand Casino Arena as Xcel Energy Center sign comes down
The Minnesota Wild's arena, only ever known as Xcel Energy Center, is now officially Grand Casino Arena.

Should you really be the national leader of a party if you can't resist bad-faith attacks on your party's endorsed candidates?
Hakeem Jeffries says of Cuomo's attacks on Mamdani for living in a rent controlled apartment: "It's a legitimate issue that has been raised, and the [Mamdani] campaign is going to have to address it."

Just about every modern design manual warns against using shared use paths where high pedestrian volumes are present, really confused how the county arrived at this: nacto.org/publication/...

"Last year there were ten murders in the NYC subway system, with well over a billion total rides taken. During the same time period, there were 253 traffic fatalities in New York City. One person dead every day and a half. Cars? Those things are fucking dangerous."

Alright big reason the train beats flying: ran into some people on the Borealis that I sorta knew and sat with them. Not being belted in and having space, folks were switching around the whole way socializing, got to know familiar faces better. Can't do that squeezed in like tinned fish!

Amtrak cafe cars should have Biscoff cookies. Long distance travel demands them with ginger ale!

People in jobs like mine rely on an accurate U.S. Census to do things like plan for future roadway and housing needs. Immigrants, regardless of status, use both. It's connected to so many ways government serves the public, absolutely bonkers to screw ourselves this way.
And now the census
