On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

I grew up on welfare with a severely mentally ill single mother. I went to public school. I was the first person in my family to go to college. I got into Dartmouth (wild choice, right?)

I had a lot of struggles & fuckups *and* I benefitted from white privilege.

Andreessen is so full of shit.

The CITY OWNED GROCERY STORES thing as creeping communism is so funny because there’s like 20 states where if you want to buy beer you’ve got to go to a municipal liquor store

I've been banging this drum for years now, I know, but Zohran's Big Night is a clear illustration of the power of giving people a vision of the future that boldly contradicts the rhetoric of Republican fearmongers. Not just "disagrees on policies," but actively paints a different image of the world.

Just a reminder that the Star Tribune was bought by the Minnesota Timberwolves' billionaire owner and former Republican state senator in 2014.

When billionaires own papers, it is not to improve the news product; it's for control purposes. When he bought the paper, he said he'd make it less liberal.
This is continued journalistic malpractice from the @startribune.com normalizing a violent white male suspect. He owned a private security company called Praetorian Guard, traveled overseas to preach against abortion and LGBTQ+ people, and attended a bible college that preaches "violent prayer."
Suspect showed few signs of political extremism before lawmaker shootings
Friends and associates say Vance Boelter, who was apprehended late Sunday and charged with murdering a state lawmaker and her husband, was mild-mannered and did not appear to be fixated on politics.

You know who has to wear a name tag? Tom at the grocery store. But I can see the high standards of the cheese department cannot be met by armed agents of the state funded by our tax dollars.
Fox News host Will Cain: "The 'No Secret Police Act' would ban local, state, and federal law enforcement from covering their faces when interacting with the public. Officers would also have to wear identifying information on them, like name tags. Hard to believe this is real!"

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

At no point in this entire article of 16 paragraphs does ABC mention that another cop killed this cop by shooting her in the back. Nor does it mention the name of the cop who killed this cop. Nor does it mention that the civilians involved never fired at them.

ABC might as well be state media.
