There’s an older more sinister threat to American democracy that, despite the common themes and compatibility with various forms of fascism, is uniquely American, built on racism and long repeated myths.

NEW: The Trump administration's brutal removal of so many workers is projected to shrink the nation’s GDP by as much as 6.8% — a deeper hit than the one sustained during the Great Recession.

A very interesting read!

And if this is indeed a thing, then it would be interesting to learn if and to what extent Fox News played a role.

Proof that Canadian pundits suffer from similar pathologies as American cousins. Forget about whether a concept is useful in analyzing historical injustices whose effects persist today. What really matters is that someone might hurt my feelings or worse my status.

[Insert all the obvious points: Republicans being hypocritical and pro death & using double speak]

I’m glad some news outlets continue to report it. But I wonder if and when ppl will start to realize that they’re voting for a party and politicians who hurt them.

You probably saw videos of a nighttime raid in Chicago. Agents rappelling from a helicopter, bursting down doors, questioning brown-skinned immigrants.

We investigated -- and found little evidence to support the government’s claims about Tren de Aragua.

this is actually a really common way of understanding the world among pundits where events can only be classified if they fit a strict definition and if they don’t fit that definition then they cannot be classified in that way. it is as if they see definitions as structuring reality.

In the face of American threats to Canadian sovereignty, Canada needs to take steps to be less dependent upon on the American defence industry. And maybe Sweden can help, if only just a bit.
"Saab wants to do significantly more work in Canada in the near term. Saab views Canada as an ideal partner, with the right, highly skilled workforce to support a massive growth in global demand," said Simon Carroll, president of Saab Canada.

Good thread on social media platforms shaping public opinion.
Governments and voters are both reacting to algorithm-shaped “public opinion,” not grounded priorities. Immigration feels urgent because platforms amplify fear, pulling parties into hollow performances of toughness. The far right reads that drift as confirmation it’s winning.
Not everyone is unhappy about the Government's descent into anti-refugee politics

“Bad apple” or a representative example?
So… A BP agent filmed in LA in June kidnapping someone from a Walmart got arrested by Long Beach cops after drunkenly flashing his service pistol in a women’s restroom. He demanded they call BP Commander Bovino. After making bail he died of a drug OD at his parents house. lbpost.com/news/isaiah-...

I wonder if part of the post liberal & New Right appeal for a not insignificant amount of people is that the Right’s frameworks and personalities tell people how to feel. People feel lost, disconnected, frustrated, etc and the Right tells them how to feel about that.

One thing that's become very apparent over the last few years is that journalists chose the news.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.
