Phenomenal oped!

Loads of takeaways. One example.

Great thread!

This point struck me.

Very interesting read with numerous takeaways. That said, I think the author overplays the current state of our cultural institutions around shame. They may be badly damaged but they haven’t been completely destroyed. We need more discourse on ethics and norms. We must not abandon them.

They could’ve been talking about the dominant economic schools of thought prior to 2008.

FWIW, I appreciate Ganz’s clarity of thought and articulation in his writing, generally.

Re the post below, this point struck me.

Reading about how the Mont Pelerin Society worked to obtain hegemony has me asking why the left can’t do the same.

The crux of the article from what I can tell

This is a great read.

Sharing two points that stick with me.

This is a great read!

These two points grabbed my attention especially the “feelings” based reasoning.

“Not caring until it affects you is the currency of fascism”

Saw this comment on YouTube about a video of a MAGA/Trump supporter crying because Medicaid got cut. And I can’t get it out of my head.

It’s interesting that the failure to release “the Epstein file” (whatever it is) seems to be a major line for MAGA supporters. It’s also interesting that the idea of elites preying on the vulnerable is a motivating concern and that the Democrats failed to identify let alone speak to it.

I wonder if much of the “is this fascism” discourse suffers from precision fallacy, bias toward 20th century analogies and/or focusing on the parts instead of the whole.

The latter reminds me of a quote from The Expanse.

It’s almost as if their accusations of antisemitism aren’t actually about antisemitism. It’s like they’re a slur.

Mamdani did not say that Israel shouldn’t exist. He said the opposite. It’s in the article.

Great read. These two points jumped out at me as they have broader application.

This is disappointing and dangerous. I know that Canada is stuck in hard place, trying not to make our relationship with the USA worse, but if the Trump regime is willing to go to war based on vibes, then anyone could be next.
