Schumer’s statement today is just another reminder that the real change comes from communities—often with resistance from the people in power, even if they claim to be on our side.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Ex-farm worker here.

We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

This is 100% correct. Trump is disarming the DOJ as we speak. Through the courts, the state AGs have some leverage to act against the improper government incursion by Elon Musk and his minions. I wrote AG Bonta of CA today. I urge you to write your AG. Now.
EVERY CITIZEN file a complaint online with your states Attorney General. Here’s your prompt

DOGE’s overreach is alarming. Illegally accessing private data via the Treasury Department demands immediate investigation. Regardless of partisan loyalties, this should concern us all.
