Some nice flourishes like the biker stopping for a piss and getting his lad ripped off and the chess piece interaction but Night of the Demon (Wesson, 1980) is a tremendously bad film that proves Kurosawa’s point about it being impossible to make a good one from a gash script*

I've got another book coming out next year so I have quite a strong practical interest in understanding *why* Municipal Gothic is outselling Intervals of Darkness. I think it's that, Sgt. Pepper style, Municipal Gothic feels as if it will have a more consistent theme and mood.

Safety inspector: I found two major issues with your Death Star. For one thing, there are no railings.

Grand Moff Tarkin: We believe railings would detract from the austerity of our bottomless chasms.

Safety inspector: That brings us to my second issue.

25 years since first watching it and Deliverance (Boorman, 1972) is still so captivating and nerve-wracking

Of course it centres around *that* horrific scene but it’s run through with tough questions around confused masculinity, man’s abusive relationship with nature and complexity of justice

When I was in the depths of postpartum depression, I read posts on Reddit compulsively, usually from women who were as unwell as I was. It bolstered my negative thoughts. Yes, life WAS ruined. Yes, there WAS no way out of this.

I can imagine how much worse things would be if I used ChatGPT.
