What a pleasure to huddle with Ellie O’Neill as she played the ICA. She had big things to say about queerness, Irish art and the influence of Nightwood (also her past career in Gaelic football). www.thelineofbestfit.com/features/int...
Ellie O'Neill: "In terms of both queerness and art, you don’t have a map" | Interview
An incredible new voice in folk, Ellie O'Neill's music and identity is driven by the rejection of prescribed paths and a search to discover her own authentic voice.

When I was doorknocking in 2017, a guy gave me his handwritten manifesto to hand to Tulip Siddiq MP. He said if I did, he'd vote for her. It included 'scrap all overseas aid and spend the money on the NHS', 'end racism' and 'close the borders'.
The problem with social media is that you’re only allowed to hold opinions in batches. If you believe X and Y, you must also believe Z, which is atmospherically similar to X and Y and believed by all the same people.

If you don’t do this, everyone hates you. It makes actual thinking impossible.

The issue isn't Mandelson, it's the system he represents. Happy for him to be defenestrated, love to see that, but that's not job done.

It says a lot about how government works in Britain that people will pretend you’re not a massive sleazebag for decades but the moment the calculus shifts to negative they will mobilise every resource to destroy you

As annoying as I find the occasional armchair terrorist posting about how acab includes primary school crossing guards this site is still a lot better than Twitter

The caravan is terrible. The beds are so small and hard and the pillows are lumpy. There is no tea cosy and no dishcloths, soap or mops. The plates are all chipped. The name of the site "Seaview" is not true because the sea is over the road and behind some caravans.

At least he’s got his trousers on for once
Mandelson last week did a comeback/damage limitation interview with photographer for the Times magazine, which I'm guessing was planned to run at a future date but has been pushed out online on a Monday night because of events. Anyway yeah. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Neil Gaiman is crawling out of his bog two years after sexual assault allegations to play the sweet old fantasy uncle again -- complete with name-dropping that book you like & his twee "make good art" catchphrase -- all in order to (of course) sell you his upcoming book. Don't you dare fall for it.

When you know you’re in for a strictly faithful adaptation of a classic story

The way to recreate what was lost is to get the continuity script (in the Carringer edition if you can) and then use the imagination God gave you.
In 1942, RKO slashed 43 minutes from Orson Welles's "The Magnificent Ambersons" and slapped on a happy ending. Now, an A.I. company wants to restore what was lost. Are they righting a historic wrong or descrating a classic? My deep dive, in this week's New Yorker. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Will an A.I. restoration of “The Magnificent Ambersons” right a historic wrong or desecrate a classic?
