The second half of this podcast dropped last night.

The first 15 minutes or so is among the best explanations of what we need to be doing, and what we have failed to do, that you are likely ever to hear.

Great movie alert: Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value, opening in theaters this weekend, follows a family in Oslo through multiple generations, w/ a never-better Stellan Skårsgard as the narcissistic patriarch & the luminous Reinate Reinsve as his depressed elder daughter. slate.com/culture/2025...

Revisiting the comparative text this evening (Anthony Mann’s greatest film)
Last saw them at the Astoria, 2006. Lux fell off the back of the stage holding a bottle of red wine aloft. He looked like Lee J. Cobb after being shot by Gary Cooper in Man of The West. 2/2

One of my mates wrote to Steve Backley, telling him that Steve Backley was my hero and I used to throw javelins until I lost the use of both my arms, and so Steve Backley sent me signed copies of two of his self-help books for my 40th birthday.

I'm obviously rewatching it tonight. It's such a performance, especially that first episode. That coiled anger, horror, sadness, hatred. Feels like he barely says a dozen lines of dialogue and yet you still end up feeling like you know every thought he's had since he was born. A masterclass.
