There I was thinking, yeah, The Man Who Cheated Himself (Feist, 1950) is a pretty decent noir and then phwoaaarrrrr, those climactic foreshadowed scenes with the falling scarf at Fort Point followed by the sheer sexual tension of the cigarette interaction in the courthouse 🔥🔥🔥

They don’t like it up ‘em, these Aussies. I says, they don’t like it up ‘em! 🏏

Having *thoughts* about Bridget Jones in that bunny costume and running down the snow-laden street in her knickers and cardi. Sorry

What’s the most entertaining film ever made, and why is it The Vault of Horror (Ward Baker, 1973)?

My widowed mum is finally getting out and meeting new people, thanks to a local walking group. Feels like I’m sending her off to the first day at a new school

Night Game (Masterson, 1989) was very enjoyable, albeit the story is a bit daft - almost knowingly so

Looks very cool and has a noirish vibe with patches of glib humour

Roy Scheider great as usual, though character a touch clichéd and the thing between him and his young fiancé was hard to swallow

Can you imagine being envenomated and quite likely killed to death by something as ridiculous looking as a boomslang, with their puffed-out jowls like an elderly busybody sucking on Murray Mints and objecting to kids playing ball games in the street?

Later in life, it’s been Lord ffoulkes, especially since cricket teammates asked ‘Why do you remove your cap when running between the wickets?’ and I responded with ‘A gentleman never runs with his cap on’

Put off watching it for years but fuck my old boots, The Innocents (Clayton, 1961) is INCREDIBLE

Script, casting, dialogue, pacing, sound, direction and CINEMATOGRAPHY are all perfect, making for what is one of the most chilling ghost films of them all

6.5 ffoulkesy stars out of 5

Wowsers, In A Lonely Place (Ray, 1950) is one heck of a motion picture. I hesitate to use the modern shorthand for something ultimately so much more complex and multilayered but it’s meta as absolute fuck. Insanely good script and phenomenal performances from Bogey and Gloria Grahame 🔥

Put Hammer’s 1958 Dracula on as a background film for when kids came trick or treating and ended up sitting down and watching the whole thing because it’s just too damn compelling. Big Chris on lusty great form; van Helsing quite neurodivergent-y in his myopic pursuit of the vampire

Kids today, eh. You’d think they’d never watched classic 60s Giallo
