You don't even need to limit your screen time. I took my social apps off my phone but left the ebook apps, and lo and behold I've read twice as many books this year as last year (and that's not counting magazines and short fiction).
Too many people have resigned themselves to not reading because they fear they no longer have the focus for it. You only need to limit your screen time for a few days to begin feeling the effects on your brain. I promise you, you are capable of reading books again.

A Goodyear welt shoe goes for $350 or more, so yeah.
Current shoes at the 80-120$ mark will not last long and often aren't worth repairing
(The Vimes boot theory, yes)
Actually…

One century ago, standard, mid-range, catalog shoes went for 2025 $30-50 per pair, were repairable (glued soles hadn’t become common yet), were made of leather, would last for several years and could be Ship of Theseus’ed on soles, fasteners and heels.

They were better shoes for less.

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

Aw thanks for asking! I've spent the past few years turning to collaging in times of overwhelming grief or fear or pain, when I couldn't form words of my own. I didn't realize they might speak to others, too -- so I was really excited when Worlds of Possibility published "After" as a collage poem ✨

I have three takeaways from this article: 1) Scientific discovery is always a team effort rather than an individual one; 2) Academia had, and still has, a sexism problem; and 3) I'm redacting because one should not speak ill of the recently deceased.

Sorry to SpacedockPost on Sojourn, but just want to signal boost this unfortunate situation.

The game and DLCs are heavily discounted on GOG so grab em if you've ever wanted to.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock was my first gig with a major sci-fi IP and a fond memory for me. Very sad outcome.

this is genuinely one of my favourite pieces of marketing cuz of how effective it was. It's literal & thus everyone can understand that they were in fact waterproof
In 2014 Sony sold its waterproof Walkmans in a bottle of water to prove it was really waterproof

I hope some smart film producer buys the rights to Garius's essay series!

A reversal of fortune nearly a year later: the festival will not be changing hands after all, and the boycott by artists, who have spent the year signing petitions for a new team to take over the organization, is likely to be huge.

Maybe it's time for another city to step up to the plate.

It me. I wrote this.
Part 2 of our history of the remarkable flight of the California Clipper in WW2 is now available.

To get back to the US after Pearl Harbor, Ford and his crew are asked by Pan Am to do something no commercial aircrew or passenger plane has done before:

Circumnavigate the world. #history #aviation
Flying blind: The remarkable journey of the California Clipper, Part 2
What Pan Am were asking of Ford, his crew and his aircraft was to do something that no commercial flying boat had ever done before: complete a circumnavigation of the world.
