wouldn't have guessed it but i think bf have published at least one genuinely good 8 story every year since at least 2020. for all my issues with their current house style, the hit rate there is as good as it was before the box set era. really liking Lost Amongst the Stars.

happy 62nd anniversary of dr who! 2025 was, aside from covid, easily the most uncertain year for the program since it was canceled in 1989, but it still managed to have one of the series’ best episodes and a handful of other bright spots.

Literally the reason Twitter sucks now is all these foreigners logged on willing to do racism for pennies on the dollar and undercut our home-grown American racists. We need to erect serious trade barriers to protect the integrity of our domestic racism industry and preserve racist jobs.

did not expect priest black panther to be so funny. did not expect it to feature dubya asking a chicago club dj to spin the dixie chicks (published in 2002, before they denounced him)

one thing i want to emphasize is these "illiberal" and "postliberal" authoritarians are just thieves and crooks! trump is thief. orban is a thief. putin is the biggest thief of them all.
wrote about the president’s flagrant and destructive corruption in a column that references street fighter, the simpsons, machiavelli, and a host of revolutionary-era americans (gift link)

The cost of Trump's immigration surge: Stalled investigations into child sexual abuse, Iranian oil smuggling and human trafficking, among others. My latest piece is a big team effort on how DHS has been transformed into the Department of Deportation.

ME FOR THE LAST EIGHT YEARS: look, i know it's a useful shorthand, but i don't think there's any such thing as a literal "epstein list" in the sense of a list of names JEFFREY EPSTEIN, IN AN EMAIL TO HIMSELF:

how about a piece of investigative journalism that accuses a mayoral candidate of fraud based on an application for college he filled out when he was 17 that a neo-Nazi gave the paper because they were racist? you're insulting the intelligence of everyone here to imply this is about standards
I am not defending Landon’s relationship with Epstein. In fact, the NYT didn’t even try to defend it. He left the paper. What I’m saying is that a piece of investigative journalism that exposes a secret, criminal act such as statutory rape requires far more than what is in these emails.

the future of the democratic party is a coalition of the wokest people on tumblr and absolutely dead-eyed pursuers of the national interest and the maximization of GDP
I feel like the econ policy people have been less annoyingly centrist on Trump than the rest of the think tank ecosystem purely because the only concrete policy he’s pursued in two months are tariffs, which like none of them like

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.
