The thing is when you create a bunch of 54/46 spaces including your strongholds a 10 point shift becomes catastrophic. At that point instead of overwhelming the other side on tight margins you’ve diluted your strongholds right before a blowout.

One more point on gerrymandering. The reason it works is that you’re taking your reliable voters and inserting them into the other party’s spaces to create a bunch of extra wards/districts/whatever that will vote for you by breaking up your 60/40 spaces and spreading them out. 1/2

In normal times, this would see Republicans in the house and the Senate stampeding to get back to the center and do something about these numbers. These are not normal times, and the current GOP only knows double-down. Assuming that holds, this could actually happen. Unlikely, but possible.

Also seeing a fair bit of “sure they told us this before” and, also, no. These are not normal numbers. These are not even happy partisan pollsters blowing smoke up your ass numbers. These are we haven’t seen anything like this since the 1960s numbers.

Couple this to the other tracked shifts in the poll and a lot of Republican gerrymanders switch from reliable red to catastrophic for red. Packing and cracking only work up to a point and then they flip into crushing losses. Now, again I’ll believe it when I see it, but DAMNNNNN

Always remember. When a Lost Causer is bringing up Racism in the North or in California they're not concerned with the subject. They're using the subject to minimise or shift focus away from the racism in their own states.
this doesn't mean the South is hopeless, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't keep trying to win elections and fight the MAGAs in the South, but maintaining this fantasy nonsense about how the South doesn't REALLY have a uniquely racist culture in a number of respects is just foolishness
