The long hangover of the new left and 1968 has in general just been such a disaster in so many ways. I fucking hate how every protest at an Ivy is covered like it’s WW3 and the 18-22 yr olds involved treated like they’re the UN Security Council with think pieces on What It All Means.
I think the legacy of the Boomers romanticizing their Vietnam protest days has been bad for undergrads, who are expected to not just speak out but speak out coherently because of an overly rosy view of what things were like in 1968

Russia rejected the ceasefire? No this can’t be. I was assured that Zelensky was the one who caused all of this and was the aggressor getting in the way of peace.

Cutting off military aid and screaming at him in the White House was all pointless? No. I can’t believe it.

Just to be perfectly clear because I ran out of characters: This is wild. Lamberth doesn't exactly say that DOJ stopped litigating, but, he didn't not say that!
NEWS: Judge Royce Lamberth converted his TRO against enforcement of the anti-trans prison provisions of the 1/20 "sex" definition EO into a preliminary injunction bc, although the govt suggested at the TRO hearing that it would present "ameliorative steps" to protect the trans women, it ... did not.

A large fire broke out at a manufacturing site for aviation products in Pennsylvania on Monday night, engulfing the building in flames and closing nearby schools over fears of hazardous air pollution, officials said.
Large Fire Erupts at Industrial Complex in Pennsylvania, Closing Schools
The building was evacuated and nobody was injured, the police said, but heavy smoke and the possibility of burning chemicals led officials to close local schools.

I reviewed a copy of the email received by a fired FDIC employee (who was told by phone they were not being terminated for performance) and it had some *very* peculiar language:

“FDIC finds that you have not demonstrated that your further employment at the FDIC would be in the public interest.”
The FDIC fired its probationary employees tonight. It's unclear just how many people are affected, but according to the DOGE website there were 513 agency employees with less than a year of experience. news.bloomberglaw.com/banking-law/...

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Biden-era GC maintained that contracts binding workers against taking their skill to competing employers are unlawful.

The new NLRB General Counsel reversed this, will stop fighting such noncompete clauses.

If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.

Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.

Steele's turn is also a signal of the massive shift in GOP tactics targetting black voters. The target black Republican in 2002 (when Steele was elected Lt. Gov) was upwardly mobile, educated, fiscally and culturally conservative. The target black Republican in 2024 is a low info conspiracy theorist
For some context, I grew up in Baltimore and Steele was as far right as you could get in political life because Maryland was so blue—Steele’s politics have been probably the farthest right that should ever be socially acceptable in the States, and he’s now effectively considered a left-wing radical

For the first time in a while overdose deaths are declining - seven straight months of declines. The cause is complicated but appears to be the culmination of a number of different Biden admin policy initiatives coming to fruition. And yet it meant absolutely nothing politically.
