The reason why Western powers have to help protect Ukraine, the Baltics and Poland is among other things because you literally promised to and signed treaties to that effect. You can of course tear up those but if you think people are going to take that neutrally and without offence you are a moron!

it's transparently easy to answer btw: because projecting force, threat and power is ethically bad from a normal, democratic perspective, whether liberal, socialist or moderate conservative
It's easy to dunk on liberals with something like 'why can't liberalism build anything as interesting as Soviet towers or Mussolini's monuments' but the more interesting question is the opposite, why does everyone with strong opinions on monumental architecture turn out to be politically insane.
