lol i see we're doing "reading" vs "video" again

i make videos (www.youtube.com/@methodandst...) when i don't have time to write

this is paradoxical because videos typically take way (way way way) more effort than writing, but the ideas i talk about on video are well-trodden so it's actually less…

Continually beating the drum of "the whole language reading method failed a generation of kids beginning in the mid-2000s for whom reading is extremely mentally taxing and frustrating".

It's an actual, structural problem.
I am An Old.

(I read way faster than people speak, so I'm almost always going to prefer text over video. I can also read without disturbing anyone nearby without requiring headphones)
The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video

To whom, exactly? Asa Earl Carter?

Another premium example (and far more harmful that merely censoring the Keystone Cops for explicit content) of Bluesky’s automod off the rails.

Remember, their official position is that people questioning their censorship decisions just want to see snuff films.

I wrote an academic piece about how truly awful the world is. This is, to my knowledge, the first comprehensive empirical survey of suffering in the world. Fun stuff!

In power talk lingo it means EXACTLY literally what it says:

"We do continuous valuation on behavioral surplus from your data"

Ain't like they say *honor* it, right?

Nice injoke+cognitive dissonance dodging mechanism innit 🤡

what an excellent bug

i like to wonder sometimes how much human art over millennia has been influenced by "let's make patterns that resemble this freaky-ass bug"
This is a painted grasshopper nymph (Poekilocerus pictus). Gorgeous.

Yes, it’s real. I caught and released an adult one of these in Arondizuogu, Nigeria once. 😃 My cousin said it looked like a masquerade and I’ve thought of them like that ever since.

OpenAI went to the trouble of hiring Jony Ive to make their flagship AI device and the whole time planned to just steal a product from another company (IVO) they pretended to be interested in while spying on them. also they were going to use almost the same name (Io). laziness just off the charts
Reading the legal complaint, Iyo Products’ claims are extremely damning - they allege both Jon Ive, along with Sam Altman and his associated entities (like his VC firm Apollo Projects) have been intentionally pretending to invest in Iyo’s Products as a means of getting technical info *SINCE 2022*.

I see this fallacy almost every day, in tech and politics:
1. There is a problem
2. We believe that our solution will fix the problem
3. We built the solution
4. Therefore the problem is now fixed

Bitch, no. You have to check.

Let's talk about leading and trailing indicators.

yeah that field just denotes the author of the original work, NOT who uploaded it. which is why you can find Mario ROMs that say "by Nintendo".

you can guarantee Kurvitz had nothing to do with the Disco Elysium upload
