can't wait for the meta-analysis supercut in a couple years that estimates the costs from all the externalities generated by AI
Is it just me or is AI making MORE legal work to respond to AI bad legal advice?

so funny story the first time i heard the phrase "human flourishing" i was on a first date with someone who later turned out to be one of those NXIVM girls
So hear me out: what if we had like a coding academy that would make us into philosophers—but not the lame kind of philosophers that *think* things. We’d be the cool kind of philosophers that *do* things. Things like blockchain. And AGI. And human flourishing. Hey are people still doing NFT’s?

loooolllllllll feelin' treach
The Atlantic suggesting, without evidence, that Canada's Global TV broadcasting the '60 Minutes' segment on CECOT that CBS distributed to it may have been an act of "treachery."

love how "classic redaction fail" is enough of a thing that you know exactly what it means

i can't remember my pdf spec at the moment but how much you wanna bet there's even moar text in these things
Ok. Now had a chance to check and, well, at least some docs do appear to be straight up classic redaction fail. And there are some *interesting* bits here.

given that there *is* a nonzero footprint of utility for these things, i submit the next question should make a distinction between the technology proper and its specific incarnation as a product category, and the archetypal relationship with the vendors (i.e., renting an API endpoint in perpetuity)
also developing a language for things they *are* ostensibly genuinely good for, like discovery and abductive situations, to build some consensus on a role for it in society, instead of arguing from a position of 100% good vs 100% bad

thinking about this, like do people:

• genuinely believe it won't make a difference who's in power
• believe the bad won't actually affect them much (or others worse)
• feel compelled to vote for their "team" (or who they're told to vote for)
• believe the outcome will actually be good for them
nothing condemns Our Times more than the fact we appear to have *mostly democratically* elevated to power some of the most stupid assholes who have ever lived.

something is wrong with a country and system that ferrets out its most undisputedly horrible citizens and then gives them nuclear codes

Obviously knowing both fixed and marginal expense gives us a slope and intercept of the total life cost. But in tech circles I have to dig to find compute per watt calculations. That’s backwards.
