I know I say this all the time but my number one double standard in modern politics is how liberal political movements are collectively responsible for everyone in their country with vaguely lefty vibes, and conservatives are given a pass for the actions of their self-selected official leadership.

We buy out the ethanol industry and repurpose the land for public solar and pollinator plants, and that's the end of local fights over clean-energy development.
~45% of US corn production is now used to make ethanol, mostly for mixing into gasoline.

That's ~13% of all US crop land already used for energy production.

Using some of the same land for solar panels would capture 50-100 times more energy per acre.

Oh dear.
So why do EU politicians say the EU import 80% of weapons and researchers think it's under half?

In October the IISS figured it out.

The IRIS paper forgot to include domestic sales of weapons. So it didn't count German industry selling to the German army as "EU" defence sales.

A basic mistake.

I would hope for the following.
1) Defence fund of €200bn to spend quickly.
2) Deficit limit that "ensures debt sustainability around 60%" acc to an independent assessment (would be 1-1.5% of GDP atm)
3) Investments that demonstrably increase growth should be exempt.
