Hmm. I recognize the shape of that chart, and of Dave's EV chart further in the thread.

Unbelievable that the @IEA is still doing this.
Good thread from Dave about the new IEA "Current Policies Scenario" making a lot of the headlines.

Here is a very quick mock-up I made of what this scenario assumes for solar PV additions through to 2035, with historical context.

I'll let you decide whether this seems likely.

May not be an ideal solution.

The rise of Chinese EVs is like the impact the iPhone had on the cellphone market. They'll just gobble up market share until they hit like 80%.

It's just going to be carnage the rest of the decade with Tesla Blackberry, Lucid Vertu, rest Nokia/Motorla

Some people say, w/ EVs, we're like in 2007, when the iPhone launched & Nokia, Blackberry & others didn't realise how big the menace was
They're wrong, we're in 2010, Apple had already eroded a big slice of the market & competitors said "no worries, we'll keep doing just fine"

One of the most ill-conceived EV charging solutions is to place the plug in the kerb. Clearly, no one has considered the costs of groundwork and accessibility. Introducing a special arm for the latter does not improve the situation. This is not innovation, this is stupidity.

Why are Petrostates in Freakout Mode?

Renewables skyrocket ~3X by 2035!

RE global share of global electricity production is ~55% in 2035, up from 33% in 2024.

Nuclear generates ~10% in 2035.

Fossil fuels fall from ~59% to ~35% in 2035.

the kicker is simply hiding in plain sight

"Those include a large industrial base that is hard to decarbonise, a high dependence on exports at a time when globalisation is under threat, and a mighty auto industry having to write off 140 years of internal combustion engine expertise."

This weekend IONITY opened site 800!

Congrats on this milestone!
at the same time this means about 100 stations per year (very rough calculation)
it also means less than 1000 plugs per year

am I alone in finding these stats somewhat underwhelming when you realize BMW, VW, Merc..
