I’m ticked. As a marathon runner, I consume 3 lbs of international pasta per week.

I’m going to be reduced to Prince pasta or have to go to rice for carbs.

I continue to think one of the biggest divides on this site is between people who understand that the last time we had a good, relatively easy way out of all this was Nov 5, 2024, and people who still don’t.

I think some of you have not taken a single moment to consider that the people who’ve been out of work for the last 40 days and who are presently staring down the prospect of going into the holiday season without a paycheck are *also* calling their congresspeople.

This is on you, Republicans!
TAPPER: Do you have any numerical idea of how many Americans will not be able to be with their families for Thanksgiving because of this?

DUFFY: I think the number is going to be substantial

Precisely.

The GOP has every right to reopen the government without extending ACA subsidies.

And own it.
The GOP claim that Democrats are responsible for the shutdown keeps being undermined by Trump, who is demanding they unilaterally end it by abolishing the filibuster. Trump says Republicans are being killed and he’s not wrong. They control the federal government.

Just a reminder … what worked for a campaign in NYC is absofuckinglutely not what will work for a Democrat running in Alabama.

Things are very different here and Doug Jones knows that very well.

There will be so many things to say about the legendary Nancy Pelosi's transformational tenure in Congress—but for now, let's start with "Thank you, Madam Speaker."

People want more affordable health insurance, not a savings account.

This is just a Republican bait-and-switch to repeal Obamacare for the 70th time.

Let’s get serious — extend the health care tax credits and open the government.

If people spent a quarter of the time that they spend yelling at Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries for shit that isn't their fault and instead went to yell at republicans who are responsible for every bit of it we would win super majorities for the rest of our lives.

The White House keeps unilaterally taking entirely voluntary actions which it openly says are intended to inflict more pain and then they're I guess surprised - along with most of the DC media - about why they seem to be taking the blame for the shutdown.
November 8, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Counterpoint: The GOP completely ended any doubt whatsoever that they’re responsible for the shutdown when voters in Nov 2024 gave them the House, Senate, & WH.

If it’s really that important to the GOP to reopen the government w/o ACA subsidy extension, they have every right to do so.

And own it.
And now republicans rejected the Democrats offer and COMPLETELY ENDED ANY DOUBT WHATSOEVER THAT THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SHUTDOWN while every idiot on this site that doesn't understand politics freaked out over nothing as usual LMAO.

This is really amazing!

Pritzker is chasing Kathy Hochul for best transit governor in the country.
Thanks to the Illinois’ massive investment in transit, Chicago has a bright transit future, with the dawn coming next year:
—50% increase in every-10-min bus routes to 30 citywide
—8-minute midday headways on rail lines
—24-hour Orange Line service (Red & Blue already have it)
Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen’s ambitious plan would also expand — from 20 to 30 routes — the so-called “Frequent Bus Network” that provides service “every ten minutes or better” between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

As always, if you’re into transit, and you’re not following Urban Institute’s Dr. Yonah Freemark (PhD, MIT), who documents all of the transit projects across the globe, you’re not doing transit right.

When many other Democratic leaders in Congress were cravenly supporting the run-up to the Iraq War, Nancy Pelosi opposed it and whipped votes in the House against it.

She has many other career accomplishments but that brave and prescient stand is what I'll remember.

So much I could say, but I’ll just say she convinced her caucus to vote for something they hated and knew they’d lose their jobs over, on the promise that it’d be amended in some unknown way later through reconciliation.
