Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

This is impeachable. He should be removed from office for this and Democrats should say so. He does something impeachable basically every day. Dems should be creating a drumbeat.

Where are all those "but academic freedom!" folks? Harper's Letter signatories? What's up?
This is insane. Any material a prof thinks is necessary but isn’t for formal licensing has to get the signoff of the chair, then dean, then provost?

This is an absolutely mockery of academic freedom.

I feel like Texas Tech HAS to lose its accreditation for this, no? It’s preposterous.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

Drugs are not weapons.

Drug traffickers are not terrorists.

The US wasn't attacked.

Boats on open water far from US coasts aren't a security threat.

There is absolutely no argument for self-defense in Caribbean boat strikes, nor in possible war with Venezuela.

This campaign is lies upon lies.
This is fundamentally the wrong way to deal with drug problems.

The campaign is built on lies.
The White House's lies about the illegal Caribbean boat strikes are so obvious and about such serious matters that they're floundering.

As @gregsargent.bsky.social and @jenrubin.bsky.social explain, specific strikes are criminal, but even more so, the entire campaign is blatantly illegal and wrong.

I don't know what the role of journalism is if not to "referee the news." Your whole job is exercising your professional judgment to determine what people need to know and why it matters!
The NYT’s Patrick Healy asks a ridiculously both-sides question in which he tars critics as partisans who want the Times to “referee the news.” How about telling readers clearly that Trump is dismantling democracy? You offer the evidence. You’re just afraid to draw the conclusion. 🧵 2/4

I’m glad this “second strike” is getting all the attention it deserves, but let’s not forget that all the first strikes were totally illegal too!
Markwayne Mullin defends Hegseth: "If there was a second strike, it wouldn't be to just simply take out the survivors. It's because there was still a threat or opportunity for them to run."

This is completely deranged. She’s calling for torture of people that there is no evidence of wrong doing against.

Time for a boycott of Sirius.
Megyn Kelly on alleged war crimes: "I really do kind of not only wanna see them killed in the water, whether they're on the boat or in the water, but I'd really like to see them suffer. I would like Trump and Hegseth to make it last a long time so they lose a limb and bleed out."

Of course they do. Republicans who hate color revolutions understand them much better than leftists who share their opinion do, because Republicans understand that color revolutions imperil reactionary authoritarian regimes *like the one they are running*
Do the Republicans who repeat the “color revolutions” talking point not understand the color revolutions were all against authoritarianism?

When you zone for fewer homes, fewer homes get built (duh), housing prices go up, and cities become more segregated
Downzoning was used by cities around the world to preserve neighborhood aesthetics & protect property values.

New evidence from Chicago in @findingspress.org ⏬ shows downzoning's effects over several decades:
—Massive drop in housing construction
—Higher home prices
—Increased racial segregation

Either Trump is lying (100% chance) which means an illegal order was given or he is telling the truth (0% chance) and the service members in question committed a war crime of their own volition. Either way it should be a career ending scandal. But no it’s just Monday.

this is at least the second time he’s claimed he doesn’t know anything about a pardon he has ostensibly signed, and i feel like that’s two times too many without a follow up question from the press corpse
talking to reporters last night, Trump claimed of Hegseth's double tap strike that "I don't know anything about it," then moments later claimed "I don't who you're talking about" when asked his plan to pardon the former Honduran president

This should be made clear when Trump inevitably argues for a 3rd term as well.
We all should start saying that Trump is an illegitimate president due to the 14th Amendment’s plain text and his pardons are null and void
dems should start saying that presidential pardons dont apply to international war crimes and in fact implicate the president, no idea if thats true but they should start saying it

The media see there role as being a tool for politicians to use. Taking a position that might disadvantage a politician seems unfair.
this headline, and much of the reporting, is the result of believing that the key to good journalism is never taking a position

Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."
